USA Africa Dialogue Series - INSPIRING/ UPLIFTING--Re: July Black Girls Vote Newsletter
Dear Black Girls Vote,
Thank you for your many greatly inspiring/ uplifting messages the past year or so.
Just to let you know, that on the other side of the pond
is a keen supporter (me) of your great efforts. And with you being Baltimore-based
You'll know lots about my friend, the terrific Gloria Chuku, at UMBC.
What a contributor she has been to Black Girls and to the efforts of many
Black (and White) guys worldwide.
Wonderful news about Joy Reid's achievement. Folk from Brit here, and Nigeria,
and Kenya, indeed the world over, will wish her well.
How important it is to have such a posting at this time, to assist in making
clear that Black Lives DO Matter, and are SEEN TO MATTER.
Your objects and heart and engagement will help/ ensure
the message does get full airing, and in terms of what a VOTE is intended to mean: and that is
to be very much more than what has become merely an endorsement of one oligarch,
separated from her/ his contender by paper-thin divisions of policy which have long evaded
issues of real concern to the bulk of voters, at elections espoused to be "democratic".
We all remember November 2000 and Mr GW Bush, and the expose of the American
Presidential Election system, in action. Nor does anyone ww forget.
So, ...While it is important that Black Girls DO get out and vote;
WHAT IS OF MUCH GREATER IMPORTANCE ARE THE STEPS THEY THEN TAKE TO ENSURE
THE SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE DOES WHAT SHE/ HE HAS PROMISED. ...
AND WHERE THIS IS NOT CLEAR, TO LET THAT SUCCESSFUL
CANDIDATE KNOW WHAT MUST BE DONE TO BRING FORWARD THE URGENT CORE REFORMS
AND ADJUSTMENTS TO: EDUCATION/ HEALTH & WELFARE/ EMPLOYMENT/ LAW & ORDER,
FOR STARTERS, NOW SO DESPERATELY NEEDED. ...IT IS HERE/ IN THESE POST-ELECTION ACTIVITIES THAT BLACK GIRLS CAN ENSURE THEIR MESSAGE IS DRIVEN HOME--FROM EVERY LEVEL/ GRASS-ROOTS TO WHITE HOUSE. ...A BIG JOB. INDEED THE BIGGEST AND MOST URGENTLY IMPORTANT. ...OTHERS, LIKE MYSELF--MANY OF US NOW ELDERS--ARE DOING WHAT WE CAN/ AND AS WE HAVE BEEN DOING FOR A LONG TIME. ...
YOU SEE, BLACK GIRLS GIVE US HOPE. YOU ARE WONDERFUL. YOU STAND FOR WHAT
