One of South Africa's oldest black presses needs your help. The Lovedale Mission Press was established in 1824 as part of a Glasgow Mission Society enterprise and it became a key institution for disseminating African language material and works of black history. It is inextricably linked to South Africa's cultural and political history, with publications ranging from Sol Plaatje's Mhudi in 1930 to editions of the Black Review (linked to the Black Consciousness movement) in the 1970s. The Press has continued into the present but has felt the effects of the pandemic and is on the verge of closing. Any donations, however modest, would be a tremendous boost for the Press.
