Subject: NigerianID | A DAY THAT WILL LIVE IN INFAMY
Today October 7 is the memorial of Asaba Massacre. On this day in 1970, Nigerian troops invaded the coastal city of River Niger and massacred her citizens. Their crime? Sympathy to the Biafrans.
There is only one hero in that event, Lt. Ishola Williams (now General Williams)

What has continued to surprise me was that he was a mere LT at the time. For a LT to go over and beyond his murderous superiors to the HOS is testament to the goodness of the man. Mind you this is a time when the murderous and rampaging North held sway across the country. The worst could have happened to him and knowing all of that, he took the greatest risk to his personal safety.
I join you in SALUTING a great man: General Ishola Williams.. Americans say it is not what was said in your presence that is important., it is what is said out of your presence that is the most significant. I know no one who speaks ill of this great man - General Ishola Williams.
Folks, may I remind you all that Mazi Aduba fought gallantly on the Biafran side while General WIlliams fought with the Nigerian Vandals.

Mr. Snake, GIW is unlike any other soldier Nigeria has ever produced. He took great risks and is still taking them today by insisting that people with power exercise it judiciously. It is a miracle that he still alive. I still fear for his life because he has never failed to call a spade a spade, in a country where a spade is called a digging instrument to cause confusion.
It is not a coincidence that he still lives with his people in Nigeria and not enjoying a country home in USA with backups in EU, and in Middle East.

Tell or share with some of us, who are not really students of history, what feat GIW performed during the Asaba massacre that made him an hero. I do not doubt his heroism generally, as a number of people have attested and praised him on these fora as an officer and gentleman.

I, too, join in saluting this great man for doing what he did at a time when the likes of WO2 [ Warrant Officer Class 2] Komina had the power of life and death over the the commander of the Nigeria Army Pay and Records Office HQ, a full Yoruba colonel, at Apapa where I worked as a clerk at that time.
Indeed, if I had any control over these listserves, I would make this day General Ishola Williams Day and mark it with cessation of all hostilities for the day.
Gen. Ishola, I salute, sir!
