I think Stevek's argument misses the point of the orientation of these protests.
These protests are metamorphosing into a revolution rather than focusing on doing business as usual.
These demands indicate efforts to compel the govt to change how politics and public life are run.
Suggesting these demands be pursued through political participation ignores the orientation of the protests that Nigeria's political culture is so skewed that no meaningful change can come through it.
All over the world, social change does take place through protests, radical change.

Sorry folks,
That's not how democracy works; not by empty demands with nothing but walking up and down the streets in the hot Sun singing aluta continua songs. The way to make this work in a democracy is to get this into a manifesto of the parties and campaign promises of the elected officials. Then, instead of marching up and down in the hot Sun futilely, you simply vote for those who would make it happen and vote out those who would not.Indeed, the leaders of the aluta continua crowd run for office and are supported by contributions from the 'youths' to win elective office themselves. That's how the Power of the People is used, not march up and down with a list of absurd demands as if the Nigeria government comprise only a federal government with infinite resources!Yes, with a little bit more organization than texting each other and going out on the streets.Stevek,Sent from Yahoo Mail for iPhoneOn Saturday, October 17, 2020, 9:19 PM, Joseph Igietseme <jigietseme@gmail.com> wrote:

Lekki Toll Gate Protesters Get Solar Powered Charging Points to Charge their Devices.
Protesters at the Lekki toll gate in Lagos state have received a solar inverter and multiple charging points to charge their phones as they continue the #EndSARS Protest. This is the latest of many innovative ways protesting youths in Lagos have decided to keep the fight for an End to Police Brutality alive.
Recall that food, medical supplies, music and many more have in the past been donated to these Protesters to keep them on the streets by various brands and individuals as a way of supporting the fight against the Special Anti Robbery Squad (SARS).
