Professor Olajumoke Yacob-Haliso to Interview Professor Richard Joseph

 

Olajumoke Yacob-Haliso is an associate professor of Political Science at Babcock University in Nigeria. She holds a PhD in Political Science from the University of Ibadan, Nigeria. Olajumoke's research over the years has explored the positions of women in conflict and postconflict situations in Africa, with a particular focus on refugee and displacement concerns. She has conducted extensive fieldwork in Liberia, and some in Nigeria and Geneva. Olajumoke has also researched broader issues in relation to the comparative politics of African states.

Dr Yacob-Haliso has been the recipient of various research grants and fellowships, including from the American Council of Learned Societies (ACLS), the Harry Frank Guggenheim Foundation, The African Studies Association (ASA) Presidential Fellowship, the UN University for Peace Africa Program, the International Development Research Centre (IDRC), the American Political Science Association (APSA), the African Association of Political Science (AAPS), the Council for the Development of Social Science Research in Africa (CODESRIA), amongst others. She was Global South Scholar-in-Residence at the Graduate Institute in Geneva; ACLS postdoctoral fellow at Rhodes University in South Africa; and most recently, ACLS-ASA presidential fellow at Butler University, the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, and Iowa State University.

Dr Yacob-Haliso is co-editor of four books including Gendering Knowledge in Africa and the African Diaspora: Contesting History and Power (Routledge 2017) and Africa's Big Men: Predatory State-Society Relations in Africa (Routledge, 2018). She is also editor of the Journal of International Politics and Development, and co-editor of the Journal of Contemporary African Studies.

Dr Olajumoke Yacob-Haliso currently serves as the acting Dean of the Veronica Adeleke School of Social Sciences at Babcock University, where she also teaches courses in international relations, peace and conflict studies and comparative politics. She will be a visiting professor for the Fall 2018 semester on the Visiting Professor/Practitioner Program of the Bernard and Audre Rapoport Centre for Human Rights and Justice at the University of Texas at Austin, USA.
