, From a kalo kalo and cowboy economy to a super startup and space daring economy by Augustine Togonu-Bickersteth,London,England
Dear mr president,
You perhaps do not understand politics neither do you
understand economics but then it appears you are open to ideas
You are open to progressive ideas for where there are no ideas there is no
Development. No development then no Nigeria
Development is not economics and economics is not development but development and economics are in a symbiotic relationship
I salute you for doing your job by signing the start-up bill on the anniversary of the ENDSARS event I hope .it represents a new beginning for Nigerian youth and the birth of a new Nigeria particularly with the news that 5 million Nigerians would be trained based on the effort of the FG on ICT. in digital skills by Microsoft.
My imagination goes wild! 5 million Nigerians! Awesome! You have laid the foundation for a multi trillion-dollar Nigerian economy, taking Nigeria from a kalo kalo and cowboy economy to a space faring and super start up economy.
It used to take a whole life to make a million dollars, then a whole life to make a billion dollars .now its taken just three to five years after, scaling up for two undergraduate to become billionaires or to own a billion dollar company so you could imagine the potential of 5 million youth knowing what we know of Nigerian youths breaking and shattering records' around the globe but these youths, Africans as they are need counselling from the word go as to what money is and what it is not not what money can buy what it should not buy and what it cannot buy they should be told that money is not everything.
Money is not the only currency. Besides a good name is better than money and they should be warned of the perils of fame and fortune.
What's more there is the joy in living more with less, minimalism as opposed to the American dream of having more and more. The average American home has 300,000 items. If we all live like Americans' in terms of consumption, we would destroy the planet...
The start-up bill should not be seen by the Nigerian youth as a steppingstone to living the American dream. What we want from them is the Dream of Africa to use an expression made popular by the writer, Camara laye.. We want the youth to take up the" challenge of Africa" a other expression made popular with a book by the Nobel laureate wangari maathai
What masters are family, friends, community, country meaningful work, culture and legacy not the size of your bank account, you do not measure your life or other people by the size of their bank accounts
The idea of Digital innovation and entrepreneurship council is chaired by you Mr president is music to my ears. I am not an emergency crusader, of the youth, years back i wrote an article titled ,£ nigerian youth science and creativity" and there i mentioned einstein being the greatest scientist of 20th century at age 26, james clerk maxwell of the 19th century at 24,benjamin osuntokun made hids most seminal contribution to medicine at the age of 34 to be described as the world's greatest black neuroscientist akinkugbe a profer at 35 years to be described as the father of African hypertension
I also want to commend the minister of industries and trade for what he has done on the landscape as far as intellectual property rights are concerned but it does need a massive public enlightenment not only in English but in nigerian languages, pidgin and Arabic this might help to stem the tide of unprintable crimes
