Fellow Citizens:
Hope you have read the statement by Dr. Festus Akande responding to a piece by Dr. Kperogi. If you have not, find the link below. I also included a response by one Adebisi Oladele.
Do we need more evidence of institutional decadence?
If they are driven to respond, can they not educate us about the law?
Should citizens not worry that those who are not on the ballot are declared winners of an election?
'It's bizarre expression of ignorance'- Supreme Court hits Farooq Kperogi, others over comments on Akpabio, Lawan's judgements

Their response is even more bizarre. How does a court that has for the umpteenth time held that technicalities can no longer be the reason for the denial of substantial justice. To the chagrin of many Nigerians technicality has become the signpost of most of the political decisions the Final court for justice has espoused as the basis for its decisions.
Was it not Justice Elias Taslim, Nnemeka Agu and Aniagolu JSC and others who in various cases that we now rely as locus classici continue to hammer on the need for substantial justice. A very recurrent phrase is "justice must not only be done but must be seen to be done ". If ordinary man on the street who is not an interested party feels that justice hasn't been done and most people think so then justice may not have been done. Especially where the decision is one that relates to the maintenance of democracy and political stability.
This particular Supreme Court has been poor. They are only alive when it comes to biting back those who criticize them.
In my book they are a very poor example of a court of justice and a court of policy.
