Wrong again!
Nigerian states do not have the power to set up banks without
approval by the Central Bank of Nigeria.
Please do your home work before dabbling into issues you know so little
about.
If it was that easy for states to create banks and then start dipping into the
federal treasury there would be thousands of state banks in Nigeria both Islamic
and Traditional ones.
What you are spreading is false propaganda!
What you are attemting to do is similar to 'giving a dog a bad name so you can
hang him.' You have not provided any cogent argument that supports
the notion that Islamic banks in Nigeria would hurt the interests of
non Muslims or those who chose not to patronize them.
Learn to live and let live! Advocacy is good only to the extent that it does
descend into the realm of false propaganda.

Ola

I could not get the gist of your rebuttal. Is this how to defend Islamic banking? The north wanted Sharia for their states; they got it! Why is Islamic banking a national issue? Well, Islamic banking advocates want to dip hands into the federal treasury to fund non-profit making banks in the northern states. If the banks were to be funded by states, I do not think the central bank governor would step in. My friend get your facts together before rebuttal

My dear, yet poor Henry, I am afraid but you are not only opionated but obviously mean in sparing time to read the bulk of literature on the increasingly globalized dimension which Islamic banking is taking. Suffice it to say, that you lack that superior argument to overwhelm even the hardcore western economists who are now either sceptical about their dominant banking system or are sold to the idea of Islamic banking as a timely or epoch making breakthrough. However, I agree with you that strictly or in contextual terms the Muslim nations are backward in the modern economic system, but that shouldn't be surprising since it's alien to their way of life just as the African nations typically are neither here nor there. But, as there is a synergy forming between the Islamic and Western banking systems, be assured that the Muslim nations would catch up (may be this is your fear), because wealth flights would now have more positive impact on their citizens, along with those of the western world of course. Above all, the tide is too powerful for minnow intellectuals like you to do anything about. As you can see, if your apprehension is that the Islamic banking is an attempt to Islamize Nigeria, then you don't seem to appreciate the issue, because in that regard or impliedly, it's the whole world being Islamized.
