The Physics Students association University of Ibadan was launched on
May 1 1985, 27 years ago.It had as its first and founding President
Mr. Olufela Joseph Bright and Co-founder Adeniyi Olowofela now a
Professor of Physics and currently caretaker Ido Local Government
Area of Oyo State. He would be 49 years old on May 3.
On the occassion of the launching, the then Head of Department of
Physics University of Ibadan, now retired Professor Ebun Oni
delivered a lecture with r the Title, The Three Vital processes of
Scientific Discovery under the Watchful Eyes of the ,Geo-
Physicist,Business man and Patron, Dr. Olu Agunloye now a
Gubernatorial aspirant in Ondo state.
Fela Bright"s Tenure as President has been described as unprecedented
in the History of the Physics Department, Unibadan. One of the things
Fela Bright tried to do was to change the perception previuosly held
of Physics Students . Physics students then tended to be see as not
too social.and for the first time in 1985,the University of Ibadan
witnessed a PHYSICS WEEK including a Physics Week Dinner and
commisioned Drama Presentation Titled , THE PHYSICISTS by the Swiss
Playwright, Fredrick Durematt as performed by the Students of the
Theatre Arts Department University of Ibadan. There was also an Essay
Competition with the Topic: TOWARDS THE UNDERSTANDING OF THE UNIVERSE.
One unique thing introduced by PHYSA was Coaching Classes by
Undegraduates for Undergraduates in the Project Room of the PHYSA.
As at the time PHYSA was launched few people applied to study Physics
at the University of Ibadan so the Physics Students associations"s
executive was made up of not only Physics Undergraduates but also
those taking Physics from other departments

Augustine, thank you for this write-up! Your laudable roles as Project Coordinator to the success story must not be left unsaid. The "Magic (Crystal) Radio" you exhibited brought us into limelight on campus. It was you that also sought out, "The Physicist" amongst several other activities that made PHYSA a success story. I hope we will all be able to celebrate PHYSA in a grand way in one of the (soon) coming years! Cheers.
