good letter, but a question: were either seacole or equiano britons? maybe, vaguely, by adoption, but not by origins. if anything seacole is jamaican, and equiano might be called african or nigerian or igbo, if you buy his account, or he might be called african american, which is probably closer to the truth. in any event, he came to britain later in his life. don't know if he legally became a brit, though it is true he was an important figure in the british abolition movement
