Re: USA Africa Dialogue Series - Re: Gambia: New African Magazine's Exclusive Interview With President Jammeh

Very articulate here. He did not sound, in this interview, like the crazy guy he is portrayed to be. Here is my favorite:
"We jump into every bus without knowing the destination. And when the driver stops in hell and asks the Africans to drop off. We find ourselves asking; why are we here?"

He was being missed at the Commonwealth summit in Sri Lanka, and so were the heads of state of Canada and India, who did not attend...

Personal reaction: I take my hat off to him. President Yahya Jammeh was impressive, to say the least. One the level of rhetoric and that sort of rebel ideology he's on top of the matter, but when it is the market and not Jammeh who decides, there are greater limits to his power, even in the Gambia.
There are others, who say that President Jammeh could have been more effective and had the Gambia's interest better served if he had stayed in the Commonwealth  with all the advantges of Commonwealth membership, and aired his grievances, within...
