USA Africa Dialogue Series - For the good of Nigeria: Goodluck Jonathan or Muhammadu Buhari?

Congratulations! At last, after months of speculation: Muhammadu Buhari is the APC's presidential candidate .

Finally, the two horse race is on: for the PDP Goodluck Jonathan, for the APC Muhammadu Buhari - and it's the winner takes all!

In the coming weeks, Ladbrokes could be setting up the odds and taking bets on the outcome which is still anybody's guess.

Buhari says that he has no dollars to offer, only his commitment.

Goodluck Jonathan says that he does not intend to rig the elections.

This is Mr. Buhari's fourth shot at the Nigerian presidency through the ballot box and this time he could be lucky. At least nobody has to worry that just because his name is Muhammadu Buhari, a Federal Islamic State or Caliphate of Nigeria is on his agenda...

And there you have it.

I'm thinking of the prophet Moses,  in his time the humblest man that ever walked upon the surface of this planet  and I'm  also thinking about President Jonathan who is showing some magnanimity in wishing Muhammad Buhari "Good luck" even if he is still beating his chest and saying that he Goodluck Jonathan is the best president that Nigeria has ever been blessed with  since Independence - and  of course, that  includes General Buhari's brief spell at the helm of affairs, December 31, 1983 to August 27, 1985...

Just try to imagine the kind of fallout if e.g. Brother Obama were to say a similar kind of thing as Goodluck Jonathan: "I am the best president that the United States has ever had since the War of Independence!"

The fallout from such a statement would be immense, wouldn't it?

Excerpts from Obasanjo's My Watch on President Goodluck Jonathan

As for me, as far as the Nigerian presidential elections are concerned I*m retreating into peeperdom from where to follow  all the news  and the little forum battles that are bound to ensue in the coming weeks, between e.g. Lord Anunoby and  His Majesty  Ogbeni Kadiri.

For the good of Nigeria may the Better man win.

 Somebody please say "Amen"
