Re: USA Africa Dialogue Series - African Leaders of Tomorrow Scholarships

I should add that although York does have a highly-rated school in Public Admin in Canada, the potential awards are Canada-wide,  and for both anglophones and francophones-- that is, they can do it in English or French. But indeed, do apply to York.

Toyin,

If you know of any good candidates for an MA in Public Administration, they should apply to York. There is a new program.  See below.

Dear faculty members,

Please see the following announcement below.  There is a future opportunity for graduate students to enrol in a Masters of Public Administration in Canada   This is a way to attract international graduate students.

When additional information is available, would it be best to consider a meeting with some members of the Consortium on Africa  and colleagues from our School of Public Policy and Administration?  If so, please let me know who is interested.

Your thoughts are welcomed.

CBIE / IPAC consortium to implement African Leaders of Tomorrow Scholarships

Ottawa, December 11, 2014:  Prime Minister Stephen Harper has announced the selection of a consortium comprising the Canadian Bureau for International Education (CBIE) and the Institute of Public Administration of Canada (IPAC) to implement a new scholarship program created in honour of the late Nelson Mandela.

The African Leaders of Tomorrow Scholarships Fund will be funded in equal part by Foreign Affairs, Trade and Development Canada (DFATD) and the MasterCard Foundation. In recognition of the importance of a strong and effective public sector in advancing sustainable economic growth and poverty reduction in Africa, the Fund will support promising professionals in becoming leaders in public policy and administration.

Over a period of five years starting in 2015, the Fund will grant up to 130 scholarships to young African men and women to pursue a master's degree in public administration in Canada.  Scholarships will be awarded based on merit and include a range of countries in sub-Saharan Africa.  Special consideration will be given to encouraging the advancement of women leaders.

"CBIE is proud to be associated with this initiative and looks forward to working with IPAC, African and Canadian partners, DFATD and the MasterCard Foundation to ensure that these talented young professionals make the most of their experience in Canada," said CBIE President and CEO Karen McBride. "We are honoured to play a role in supporting the development of Africa's leaders of tomorrow."

"We are honoured to have this opportunity to support the development of Africa's future leaders," said Robert Taylor, CEO of IPAC. "IPAC, along with our colleagues in the African Association for Public Administration and Management and the Canadian Association of Programs in Public Administration, welcomes this opportunity to work with CBIE, partner governments, DFATD and the Mastercard Foundation to share our experience and expertise with new professionals in African public services."

The Canadian Bureau for International Education (CBIE) is Canada's national organization dedicated to making Canada a global leader in international education. CBIE's pan-Canadian membership comprises 150 colleges, institutes, universities, school boards and language schools which enroll over 1.2 million students from coast to coast.

The Institute of Public Administration of Canada (IPAC) is a dynamic bilingual membership-based association of public servants, academics and others interested in public administration. IPAC creates knowledge networks and leads public administration research in Canada and worldwide. Since the early 1990s, IPAC has been a major player in exporting successful Canadian public sector expertise around the world.

Sincerely,
Collette
