Caleb University appoints Aina as new VC ( Good news for a prominent member of the USA-Africa Dialogue List)

The Governing Council of Caleb University, Imota, Lagos, Nigeria has appointed Professor Ayandiji Daniel Aina, 50, as its new Vice Chancellor. Dr. Aina, who is currently Provost, College of Management and Social Sciences, Babcock University, Nigeria was until recently, pioneer President/Vice-Chancellor, Adeleke University, Ede, Osun State, Nigeria. He is the third VC for the university that was established in 2007.

A widely travelled researcher, academic and university administrator, he spent his early career life as a media specialist (with distinguished work experience spanning a decade with the Lagos-based Diplomat International Press and the Nigerian Daily Times Plc). At Babcock, Aina was a two-term Head of Department (1999-2003); Dean of the Faculty of Management and Social Sciences (2003-2006); Chief of Staff to the President/Vice-Chancellor (2006-2009); Dean, School of Postgraduate School (2010-2011); Dean Babcock Business School (2013-2015). He was also Visiting Professor and Foundation Head of Department of Political Science and International Relations, Osun State University (2009). His very rich university administrative stint saw him appointed as the Dean of the new Babcock Business School upon return from Adeleke University where he served as pioneer President-Vice-Chancellor (2011-2013).

He has served locally in Nigeria and in the United States severally as member of accreditation panel to some universities (including University of Uyo, University of Port-Harcourt, Niger-Delta University and Kwara State University in Nigeria as well as Loma Linda University, California, USA). As a member of the Accreditation Panel to Loma Linda University, a top rated university in the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC), California United States, he got the recognition to review the postgraduate school, university research agenda and staff/establishment matters.

Aina had chaired so many notable committees and held so many positions in the University system including Chairman, Committee of Heads of Department; Chairman, Administrative Policies and Plan sub-committee of University Strategic Planning Committee; Chairman, Academic, Library and Student Services sub-committee; member University Management Committee for close to two decades;  University Research and International Linkage Officer, a position which afforded him the opportunity to assist in raising funds and friends for his University.

Over time, Professor Aina attended and contributed to numerous International and National conferences, seminars and workshops; published several articles in learned journals, books and monographs in very reputable local and international outlets. He served as the Editor of the International Review of Politics and Development (2003-2008); as well as the Managing Editor, Journal of International Politics and Development (JIPAD), a collaborative publication of Indiana University, Kokomo USA and Babcock University, Nigeria (2008-2014). An award winner, twice he won the DTN Chairman Best Journalist Prize with special emphasis on education research; Best Academic Staff of the Year 2003 at Babcock University and Academic Leadership Award of the Postgraduate School a year after he left Babcock University, Distinguished Public Service Award for a notable VC from an African University at the African Conference at the University of Texas at Austin, USA (2013).

He is a christian with active interest in mission to the less privilege (widows, physically challenged). He is married to Rachael Folashade (a University Lecturer in Information Resources Management) and blessed with three handsome boys: Ezekiel, Philemon and Titus. His hobbies include reading, traveling, and prayer ministration.
