Re: USA Africa Dialogue Series - Justice Does Not Live Here Anymore (Poem)

Though famously the title of a famous work by Ngũgĩ wa Thiong'o, I cannot help saying "Weep not child" to you, Chidi, for there was never justice in that land, in the first place! If I am wrong, tell me an era when political JUSTICE prevailed in that land. Take consolation in the fact that the present merely represents a continuation of the past--a past filled with tears of the children of God who were continually robbed of political justice.

Let me say my say now
That the tide have ebbed,
Now that the cacophony
Of celebration of thievery
Have ceased,
Now that the halt
Of the people's march
To the dignity of choice
Have become history.
Let me say my say now.

On this land
Peace is an indigent damsel,
Too indigent
To cover her half-nakedness.
She is continually raped
By horny hooligans
Hired by the overlords,
Complacency
Blames her for the rapes.

Complacency
Have chased away
That old blind woman,
Who dispensed judgments
Without fear or favour.
Justice
Does not live here anymore.
