Ife Institute of Advanced Studies invites applications for the 2020 Ife Summer Institute doctoral and postdoctoral fellowship.
Theme: Exploring New Frontiers: Knowledge Creation, Collaboration and Dissemination
Date: July 20 2020 – August 1, 2020
In the fourth year of the Summer Institute organized by the Ife Institute of Advanced Studies, we will undertake the theme Exploring New Frontiers: Knowledge Creation, Collaboration and Dissemination. Africa in the 21st century faces several challenges and prospects in higher education. On the one hand, the continent has achieved significant firsts in science, technology, humanities and the social sciences. On the other, there is noticeable paucity of innovative and creative methodological, theoretical and discursive progress in scholarship and the intellectual pursuit of knowledge. The 2020 Summer Institute taking place from 20th July – 1st August, will focus on new avenues for knowledge creation with attendant consequences for national, social and economic development of African communities; building platforms for knowledge sharing and dissemination among pre and postdoctoral scholars and encouraging collaborative research and teaching as a means to educational and intellectual growth.
We now welcome applications for fellows for the year 2020.The Summer Institute holds at the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Nigeria, one of Africa's most beautiful and serene university campuses. The goal of the interdisciplinary residential summer programme is to facilitate and foster innovative research among young scholars in the academy, particularly those in the humanities and social sciences, by exposing them to relevant theory, discourse, method and pedagogies. The Institute's summer programme is an international platform anchored by a team of senior scholars drawn from Africa, North America, and Europe and engages a wide range of themes and issues that are designed to stimulate and deepen the understanding of research, teaching and service missions in the academy.
We envisage that the 2020 Summer Institute will generate new ideas, invigorate new opportunities for learning, teaching and research thereby enabling social progress and inspiring a rejuvenation of the academic space.
