Re: USA Africa Dialogue Series - 2020

Prayers are needed psychoanalytically because the commonality the world over does not operate on the same level as the experts.  They need guidance from experts but there is no guarantee they will use the guidance as expected

As a medical consultant who was my trainee in London once told me, relatives of critically ill patients thought as medical doctors they were magical/ miracle workers.  If in spite of doctors expert interventions their relatives did not make it, they thought somehow the medical personnel did not do enough.

This is why in spite of our best efforts prayers are sometimes needed.  Umaru YarAdua fell ill was flown to the UK, despite all available medical  efforts he did not quite make it back.  Muhammadu Buhari went through the same tribulations, was flown abroad to the same destination, Nigerians prayed HARDER this time.  God hearkened this time.  He came back alive. God decided Nigerians deserve continuity in progress.

People pray not because they are weak;  they pray because despite their self assured methodical preparedness they do not have ALL the solutions to all the problems.

It was Biodun Jeyifo who used to taunt us in our undergraduate days as TF just prayed now, that now we were about to get our degree we should not see it as merely the meal ticket of the graduate whose symbol was the car.

Once a driving examiner passes and gives a trainee their driving licence its with the expectations they would continue driving as they did the test day.  If they did the roads would be free of accidents.

So experts like you and TF can only hope and pray people make good use of their knowledge for the good of all

OAA.

If you're serious about this prayer business why don't you do a church somewhere online. It's really getting ridiculous: so the West and the East got to where they currently are because of prayer?

Thanks, Gloria.

And we need to pray that the current generation should not see careers as CV building, but as nation and people building.

Happy New Year to all colleagues, friends and associates, in this great discussion forum.

May we benefit from intergenerational  skills, expertise and wisdom, across space and time and political, regional and age boundaries. Ageism is not a credible option, nor is sexism, colorism, self hate or racism.

PanAfricanism should be a guiding philosophy in this new decade, as we fight against xenophobia and micro nationalism.

Let us be free from religious fundamentalists, who are at their most fanatical & destructive level in Mali, Nigeria, Burkina Faso and Somalia.

May we distribute resources equitably and avoid greed and avaricious behavior as we begin this new decade.

African youths need jobs and self employment capital, skills and guidance
and we should make this a priority in development planning. Economic growth must keep up with and even outstrip population growth-  an asset  and positive variable, in such a context.

May 2020 be the start of a decade of activism, prosperity and wisdom.
