If it was up to some, no African would be on the list. That is probably why the distinguished data scientists did not rely on the opinions of experts in the field. Their algorithm simply picked us up for the list. You may be referring to their use of Wikipedia as one of their databases but that is understandable because the quality of Wiki articles has been increasing all the time due to the open fact-checks; though the entries need updating frequently. I am sure that they will refine their methodology for future rankings but I am very happy to be in the inaugural top ranking of criminologists.

The other person of African descent on the list may have contributed to my work being recognized. He has published work that gives my own work prominent shoutouts and he co-published research on the most cited criminology works by scholars of African descent in which he flagged up my Black Women and the Criminal Justice System to be among the top 10. Full disclosure, I published his doctoral dissertation in my series for Ashgate publishers that was launched with my book on Black Women with me as series editor and both his and mine have been reissued by Routledge in their Revivals series after Taylor & Francis bought Ashgate.

The best is yet to come.

It was worth it. You should certainly be in the top ten. I thought that Henry Lee should also be in the top ten and wondered why he was not. I was appalled at the methodology used by the decision makers - as they themselves explained,  in the article.
