the fabrication of the case against sadam seemed obvious. the unstated rationale, that he was a brutal dictator who was resisting u.s. politics, seemed obvious

Are you referring to Valerie Plame's husband? Joseph Wilson? 

Yes, Bush's lies became obvious when Wilson exposed them in the NYT, but then everyone forgot about it when someone outed his wife Plame as a CIA agent. 

The public memory is short. Bill Barr spun the Mueller report so fast you can easily find people who insist there was no Russian interference in the 2016 election. 

We may never find out why the US really invaded Iraq until all the documents are declassified, if then. 

How soon will this latest outrage in Ukraine be forgotten? 

Did Hitler really ask "Who remembers the Armenians?"?

when that came out, which was widely publicized, bush's proclamations etc of the dangers after that were obviously patent lies intended to excuse his overturning of a regime that was not suitably compliant.
