"If you don't want people to know," so goes a proverb, "who sleeps with your mother before he marries your father, don't go into politics!"
Politics and competition for power generate raw emotions, as in the ongoing attacks on Soyinka and Adichie. So let the insults become part of the archives.
People have a right to support the candidates of their choice, and some, like me, who do not see this democracy as leading to development any time soon, wonder whether people realize that their statements cumulate into dangerous conflicts.
