USA Africa Dialogue Series - Oyo state and futuristic security

Oyo State is overhauling its security architecture by transitioning from reactive policing to predictive, tech-driven security. The state government is tackling severe challenges—including kidnappings and forest banditry—by integrating unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) and digital surveillance into local security operations.Key futuristic security initiatives in Oyo State include:

Aerial Surveillance:

 Governor Seyi Makinde procured specialized surveillance aircraft and commissioned an Amotekun Drone Surveillance Unit to monitor blind spots and hard-to-reach forests. These aerial assets provide live feeds to the state’s tactical teams and security control

 room.

Integrated Forest Protection: With increasing threats in rugged rural terrains, the deployment of 1,000 newly approved forest guards and rangers is being combined with tech intelligence to detect bandits and illegal miners.
