To what extent should we believe our politicians and every wannabe president of Nigeria?
How is the exhortation of “Speak the truth and shame the devil “ fulfilled?
Mathematicians, Omaha poker players, philosophers, poets, historians, miracle workers, partisan preachers and political commentators, how is this for speaking the truth and shaming the devil? :
Peter Obi’s claim that he “won” the last Nigerian Presidential election, when according to INEC he didn’t even come a close second.
Even more interesting is exactly what he said a few days ago in the BBC interview in which he admits, “Well, there is no evidence” ( that he won) - and then adds “ Everything is not based on evidence “
Like the existence of God?
Like the Virgin Birth ?
Like the resurrection of Jesus?
Obi reminds me of the opening chapter of F.R.Leavis' The Great Tradition :
Well, that was His Imperial Literary Majesty F.R Leavis, a major literary luminary speaking : “It passes as fact (in spite of the printed evidence)...” etc etc

But as politicians usually say, let me be clear : To begin with, let me say that I’m in sympathy with Peter Obi and other possible victims of uncertain fate, not that sympathy or even empathy from a non-entity like me is of any major importance or is going to overturn the results of the 2023 Nigerian Presidential Elections of which JAGABAN Bola Ahmed Tinubu was mathematically declared the winner on the basis of the number of votes cast in his favour, and Alhaji Atiku was declared the runner up, and Obi a not too distant third place.
I well remember the Presidential Election conducted throughout the Federation on the 6th of August 1983 which was said to have been won by the N.P.N. a victory that some N-P-N stalwarts joyfully attributed to “NPN Magic”
Which means that the unseen and the invisible should not be completely ruled out…
