Dr Kassim,
Was IBK talking or drinking burukutu as usual? I didnt even pay attention to his usual rant that may occasionally be spotted with parroted statments; you can observe that I just IGNORE most of them these days because they waste precious time and effort that could have been more productively applied for the advancement of the community.
As one of the parochial-minded Ethnic Bigots around here, IBK sees my statement about Lagos as "an INTRUSION" into ti-wa ti-wa zone. in his convoluted mind, JUI's zone is Edo because he is ancestrally Edo; even if I was born and bread in Lagos, IBK and his ilk see me as Edo, not Lagosian, although they are not more Lagosian than I am. Meanwhile, they are all over the world, from Arusha to Alaska, and Tokyo to Iceland, seeking equal rights, enfrachisement, right to be elected and appointed to office in the societies they reside. It is pin-headedness!
As I told Rotimi Ogunsuyi yesterday, when we heard that a Black man (Sagbo) was elected into office in Russia, some of us on these egroups, who reside in other people's countries and want to be treated as equal in those societies are the loadest on the "ethnic chest-beating" when the Nigerian nation is under discussion. Some believe in the archaic worldview of the cave-dom era, that you have to be ethnic conscious first before you can be a good citizen of a nation. What these people forget is that ethnic background has ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to do with the citizenship, nationhood and national patriotism of the modern man in our contemporary civilization. In fact, your ethnic background doesnt have to be among the ethnic composition of a nation you owe allegiance, seek elective office, and ready to die for.
So we can you appreciate the Nigerian dilemma that can at least be partly associated with people (like IBK)harboring stale socio-political philosophies of yester-years cave-doms whose proponents did not imagine the concept of a world interconnected into a global village and market place. This is is the IBK's Sybdrome!
Take care. JUI

Your submission is another example of a small mind
at work.
Federalism is not about being concerned ONLY
with your own state or region of the country.
Have you ever wondered whether there could be more
people from Agenebode and its environs living and working
in Lagos state than there are from Ilaro, your own hometown?
This is the reason Joe Igietseme takes interest in Lagos state
affairs. The interest is well placed. Lagos state, under Fashola might be
pointing to the future of Nigeria as a whole, if more governors decide
to work for the people rather than for their own pockets.
Bye,
Ola

Jo-Jo-vin,
Why don't you save your spit for Lucky Igbinedion to do up the hospitals we saw after your kinsmen met in Texas?
That is the reason for federalism so you can hold your governors accountable.
Go and donate to fix the crumbling hospitals in Edo State - LASUTH - Lagos State University Teaching Hospital in Ikeja is becoming a better centre of excellence than the old and federal government owned LUTH now.
Fashola gives all Pensioners in Lagos free medical, and they get it. He is touching lives already, and he will touch more. You go and stop Lucky Igbinedion from using your money to live in obscene opulence while Edo citizens are dying.

If Lagos State Governor Fashola accomplishes the Lagos Metro-TRAIL his Legacy will be carved on the Rocks of Time!!!He should QUIT Ship/Boat hotels, Amusement parks and other "show-me" projects that dont support the bottomline and dont take the AVERAGE Lagosian anywhere. Lagosians need regular water supply, road networks, waste/sewer managment systems and educational facilities. Take care. JUI

The governor of Lagos State, Babatunde Fashola, on Monday, flagged off the World Bank-assisted Lagos State Rail Mass Transit project at the Orile tanker terminal on the Lagos-Badagry Expressway. The project, which is being executed by a Chinese firm, China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC), has a completion deadline of five years.Mr. Fashola expressed joy that the project, first conceived by the Second Republic UPN government in the state, had become a reality.“This project which was attempted 30 years ago but was truncated has finally taken off. “The project when completed will transform rail transportation in the state and bring a lot of relief to the people,” said Fashola, who was represented by the Managing Director of the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Agency (LAMATA), Dr Tayo Mobereola.Mr. Fashola promised that the government would ensure that the rail project which started a year ago was completed on schedule. The Deputy Manager, CCECC, Shi Hongbing, promised that the project would be completed within the stipulated period of five years.Mr. Hongbing said: “The CCECC Nigeria promises to perform its best for the Lagos Rail Mass Transit Project having been tested and found capable in other areas of construction.’’ The project’s engineering consultant, Robert Searth, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that the project, which is in two phases, would require five years to complete because of the elevation of the rail tract from Marina to Orile-Iganmu.He said that the project, which would cost more than 500 million dollars (N75 billion) would include the construction of a bridge to connect Lagos Island with other parts of the metropolis.Mr. Searth said that the construction of rail tracks from Iddo to Okokomaiko would take three years to complete while the Iddo-Marina axis would take two years..![]()
