USA Africa Dialogue Series - 50TH INDEPENDENCE AWARD DINNER FOR TOP 50 US/CANADA-BASED NIGERIANS OCT 16, 2010

August 26, 2010, New York-Subsequent to a notice widely circulated early last month among Nigerians in the Diaspora regarding the Distinguished 50 at Nigeria's 50th Independence Anniversary, we have now received a fairly long list of nominees from Nigerians in the US and Canada.
 
SELECTION
Empowered Newswire is asking a select group of outstanding Nigerians to join in helping to finalize the list and pick the top 50. Those Nigerians asked to constitute the Advisory Selection Board, will not be eligible for consideration on the list this year.
 
FOR NOW, while the process for additional members are on-going, we have confirmed these outstanding Nigerians:
 
1. DR. OKEY NDIBE, PhD, Professor of English at Trinity College, Connecticut, and ace columnist 
2. DR. OLA AKINBOBOYE, MD, Award-winning Nuclear Cardiologist and Professor of Medicine at STONYBROOK U, New York
3. DR. NIMI WARIBOKO, PhD, Professor of Christian Ethics at Andover Newton Theological School, Boston, and senior RCCG North America official, who has kindly accepted to chair the group
 
 
At this time we are still reaching out to a few more of such Nigerians who are willing to serve in this capacity and agree that their names will not be considered for the top 50 list at this time.

'DISTINGUISHED 50' AT NIGERIA'S 50TH INDEPENDENCE ANNIVERSARY
 
Empowered Newswire is compiling a list of top 50 Nigerians based in the US and Canada to commemorate Nigeria's 50th Anniversary.

2. WELL NOTED IN A US OR CANADIAN COMMUNITY: The individual should belong to a community, be it city, state, industry, field, calling, etc-and should be well noted and known in any such community or association
3. SIGNIFICANT IMPACT: Such an individual should not only be outstanding and noted, there has to be evidence of significant impact in North America first and foremost and/or elsewhere as it may be. Also the individual must have had a positive impact promoting Nigerians, larger Nigerian interests and values
