The inaugural general meeting for Transform Nigeria Community Development and Volunteer Project was held Sunday, 29 August 2010. About 100 people registered to take part in this project being coordinated by Rufus Oteniya, based in Milan Italy, and Kunle Jinadu, based in Lagos Nigeria. It is aimed to instil the volunteer spirit in Nigerians.
Community Development and Volunteering are free choices we must all embrace. No government alone can ever move a nation to greatness; not even the best regimes with the noblest administrations. The roles of individuals are indispensable and together we must build Nigeria to a nation we will all be proud to call ours.
The calamitous state of the nation is a golden opportunity for every one of us to rise and activate the God given potential in us to intervene. The leadership has failed us! Yes, but must we fail with them or fail ourselves? Mba! Mba!! No!!!
We must use schools, the media, religious organizations, social meetings, community based associations etc to cause the real change. We will need to pull together our time, ideas and our resources to cause the change that we desire by creating a positive cabal that will re-write our stories to cause a nation of our dreams.
Great things are done by a series of small things brought together and extra-ordinary change does not require any extra-ordinary effort of one but the ordinary effort of all.
Let's get together to make impacts through:
• Developing a structure of formal educational system that will be supporting the existing structure like helping the school system with extramural classes, sending volunteers to teach various subjects and also help in management, counselling, etc
• Grassroots enlightenment and political education through direct contacts and massive campaigns through several media
• Human rights education, protection and legal aid
• Community development initiatives and project developments
• Provision of basic supports for the less-privileged
• Establishment of charity centres
• Social and welfare services especially to get as many children as possible off the streets
• Setting up of a-meal-a day centre.
• Ambulance services
• Youth development and sports training
• And many other initiatives
Welcome to a new Nigeria! The Nigeria of our dreams!
Dreams and action equal results.
This is the second project to be embarked upon by the Transform Nigeria Movement. The first and already ongoing project is MY GENERATION PROJECT (MGP).
Under MGP, about 84 Nigerian professionals around the world are working with Dr Chima Ahanotu based in Texas USA, and Aike Akintomiwa, based in Lagos Nigeria; to develop a specifically designed anti-corruption curriculum that will help to disseminate accurate information about the effects of corruption on the individual and the Nigerian society. This we will push to be adopted by the Ministry of Education.
Under this first phase, the emphasis will be on our individual responsibility to say NO, to corruption
The second phase of this project will be the establishment of an Anti-Corruption Academy.
The Academy will function as a centre for anti-corruption capacity building, promoting best practices in investigations, monitoring and assisting Nigerian law enforcement agencies and interested Nigerians in newer areas such as accounting, forensic science, ethics, and impacting transformational leadership training for anti-corruption officers and business executives.
For our brothers and sisters living abroad, we call on you to support this noble endeavour by contributing financially.
We have opened offices at Abuja, Kaduna, Lagos, Enugu and Owerri. Please help us by donating computers and laptops to these centres. With time, these centres will double as free ICT Learning centres for all Nigerians as we fan out all over the country.
