Husband shoots wife to death Says he has no regrets

The Gambia - Abba Sheriff Hydara, a native of Bakalarr village in Upper Nuimi District, North Bank Region (NBR) believed to be in his 80s, Monday shot his wife, Basora Hydara to death with a single barrel gun at his garden in the outskirts of Bakalarr Village in Upper Nuimi District.
Abba Hydara also shot one of his sons, Marabi Hydara on his right shoulder at the same time and place. Briefing journalists on the incident at the Police Headquarters Tuesday in Banjul, where the accused is being detained, Superintendent Sulayman Secka, public relations officer of the Gambia Police Force (GPF) said he (the accused) said he has no regrets for killing his wife, and even disclosed his intention was to kill his three children along with the deceased.
PRO Secka revealed that the other two children -Salmina Hydara and Mariama Hydara escaped death by running away. He further revealed that Marabi Hydara is now hospitalised at the Royal Victoria Teaching Hospital (RVTH) in Banjul where he is receiving treatment. "The accused is currently detained at the Major Crime Unit in Banjul Police Headquarters. He is charged with murder and attempted murder under Section 187 and Section 202 respectively all under the Criminal Code Cap 10, Volume 111, Laws of The Gambia. He may also be charged with unlawful possession of firearms without licence," PRO Secka explained.
The police PRO said during investigation, the accused told them that he has two wives, and that the deceased was living inside the garden while the other wife is staying in a separate compound. "The accused said he wanted to sell the said garden because the money raised from the garden is being used by the deceased and her children and that they don't give him enough money from the proceeds of the garden," PRO Secka explained, and added:"This was what annoyed and warranted him to shoot his wife three times, even though, she was begging him not to kill her. Then he went after the kids and was able to shoot one of them on his shoulder."
