USA Africa Dialogue Series - RE: How Goodluck Jonathan Will Govern

"""""The President is not to conduct elections; construct the Niger bridge; build the roads; sweeps the streets of Aba town and paint private houses; or administer drugs to patients at the hospitals or take students on daily lectures and administer the colleges and primary schools; he is not to sweep the markets and lock up the stores and go to the forests of Ngwa to capture kidnappers. ……… he knows his job and does it and does not interfere with other people and their jobs, …….""""unquote Nnanna Agomoh

My Question to Nnanna is: so what is your beef with former Prez OBJ, IBB, Abacha et cetera? After all, they are did their JOBS, shaking hands with other Heads, making pronouncements, wondering why Nigeria is the only modern nation where the major Cities with populations over 5 million have no mass transits, no pipe-borne water, no electricity, No Nothing, telling people to organize elections or one million march or whatever!

My Brother Ogomoh, the time-tested wisdom words of US Pres Harry Truman are VALID ANYDAY ANYWHERE: ""In periods where there is no leadership, society stands still. Progress occurs when courageous, skillful leaders seize the opportunity to change things for the better."   The FACT remains that LEADERSHIP MAKES OR BREAK SOCIETY! People and society just follow the vision or no-vision, commitment or no-commitment, seriousness or no-seriousness and zeal or passivity of their leaders. Shikiena! Take care. JUI

JUI,
Please don't let those Nigerian 'boyz', unless you don't know them from Adam, be pushing you
in a cart. Former Prez Obj said it publicly after attending a Bible College at the end of his
8 years' presidency plus 4 years earlier as Military Head of State, as you can well guess out of
a visionary test after Bible studies, that not even Jesus can conduct a credible election in
NIGERIA!
And that says a whole lot of things about Nigeria and Nigerians? So be yourself and stop reacting to the
irritating diatribe of the forums!  Nigerians are all MADE and FIXED, DRY like firewood!

Former President Bush wept that the "greatest" incident of his presidency was the death of Pope John Paul!
That happened to GEAJ too, even at a closer range, remember?  I don't know what Bush would have
said if he had handled the burial of a predecessor that fomented undue political animosity.
Only a man like GEAJ could keep his head between his shoulders and remain unruffled.
GEAJ came and met US President Obama; he signed the electoral law and approved ?millions for it.
He issued a fiat to internationalize Akanu Ibiam airport, Enugu. The same on power supply throughout
the nation. The engineers owe the a nation to let there be light. GEAJ is today at UN, etc.
These are the jobs of the President. He is doing them. He is operating his predecessor's budget,
not his own design yet.
The President is not to conduct elections; construct the Niger bridge; build the roads; sweeps the
streets of Aba town and paint private houses; or administer drugs to patients at the hospitals or
take students on daily lectures and administer the colleges and primary schools; he is not to sweep
the markets and lock up the stores and go to the forests of Ngwa to capture kidnappers.

Because he knows his job and does it and does not interfere with other people and their jobs,
it will be -
Jonathan/Sambo for democracy and rule of law come 2011.

Nnanna

What is Pres Jonathan doing NOW as President is the Relevant Point here! BTW, is there a GIVEN TIME a public official is ever READY? Or Pres Jonathan may be assuming that he is using up Yar'Adua's time, although he was VP to Yar'Adua. In fact, it is NOW Jonathan should demonstrate what he can do as President (focusing the nation on the Critical Sectors to jumpstart infrastructural development, developing strategies to curb unemployment, attention to fiscal conservatism, visionary leadership in planning and advocacies, efficient and effective management of resources et cetera), not when he becomes REAL (Gidi) Pres, whatever that means when everybody will be dragging him all over the place.

Pres Jonathan should let me down; I have a bet on him and I don't want to LOSE! Take care. JUI (looking for a remote control to turn Pres Jonathan into action!)

<Commentary>

What kind of Government can you expect from a Jonathan presidency? In one sentence: "A Business-as-Usual Government, with the kind of financial recklessness that would make Idi Amin proud, and a truck-load of clueless-ness to boot".

Looking for CHANGE? It could be better, but the best we can do in this cycle is Ribadu or Buhari. Ribadu is way preferable, but Buhari might be the one with the votes.

23 accompany Jonathan's wife

By Musikilu Mojeed

Twenty-three of the 120-man delegation that accompanied Goodluck Jonathan to New York for the United Nations General Assembly were aides and friends of his wife, Patience, presidency sources told NEXT yesterday.

Among aides of the president's wife on the trip were her steward, Benson Okpara; her luggage officer, Geoffrey Obuofforibo and her special assistant in charge of administration, Oroyemisi Ojewole.

In addition to the five security operatives that accompanied her husband on the journey, Mrs Jonathan flew her own separate security team to New York. There were her aide-de-cap, Jacob Tamunoibuomi; her orderly, Abigail Jonah, and Francis Ibiene, her chief security officer.

Although Mr Jonathan's chief physician, F. Fiberesima, was on the trip, Mrs Jonathan reportedly insisted on taking her own personal physician, Elizabeth Austin-Amadi, along with her. Also on the president wife's party were her director of protocol, Mfama Abam; her principal protocol officer, Nuhu Kwache; her special assistant, domestic matters, Martha Onwuzurumba; her special assistant, media, Aliagan Zubair and another media assistant, Ayobami Adewuyi.

Four friends of Mrs Jonathan also made the trip. They were Bola Shagaya, Joyce Bozimo, Pelebo Banigo and Musa Ujah.

Helen Mark, wife of the President of the Senate; Mariam Imoke, wife of Cross River State governor; Fatima Shema, wife of the Katsina State governor; Oluwakemi Alao-Akala, wife of the Oyo State governor and Clara Chime, wife of the Enugu State chief executive, completed Mrs Jonathan's party to New York.

Realm of absurdity

Mrs Mark also took two of her aides, Ogwuiji Clement and Omeche Omudu, along.

The vice president's wife, Amina Sambo, was accompanied on the journey by her aide-de-camp, Abubakar Dauda; her principal protocol officer, Zayyad Abdulsalam and her personal assistant, Dabo Suleiman.

The Nigerian Constitution does not recognise the offices of First Lady at the federal and state levels.

But wives of presidents and governors, even local government chairpersons, have continued to maintain huge offices, a retinue of aides and financial allocations that are never retired. Over 30 aides are believed to work for Mrs Jonathan alone.

Executive Director of the Nigeria Liberty Democratic Forum, Bukola Oreofe, on Sunday described Mrs Jonathan's conduct as "obscene use of public funds". "What she did ranks very high in the realm of absurdity," Mr Oreofe said.

"I am not surprised that his wife, who has no constitutional duties, would do that in the midst of the misery and poverty that the average Nigerian is languishing."
