USA Africa Dialogue Series - RE: DECLARATION OF INTENT: For 2011 Presidential Race -by incumbent President Goodluck Jonathan

Gregg,
Tell Brother eRG that:
1. Prez Jonathan has been in the leadership of Nigeria since OBJ/Alams' time (Depty Gov; Gov; VP, now Prez); so if he is still on a fact-finding mission on Nigerian Critical Sectors and problems areas, then we have serious problems! Anybody serious leader in these positions over the duration should have pondered and wished and aspired for an opportunity to resolve them.
2. A VP is a member of the Prez'scabinet and so if Prez Jonathan did not warm up to any program during late Prez Yar'Adua' time, such that he can flip the switch when he becomes de jure Prez, then he was just another bench-warming, shikiena, I-concur Nigerian leader, who was not worthy of all the opportunities he has had in Nigerian leadership. But I dont believe so  because he looks like an intelligent man. I hope I am right and wont lose my bet on him.
3. Prez Jonathan's New Year's message was VERY ENCOURAGING! he ariculated the persisting problems, the disappointments, the aspirations, and actually apologized for the failures, especially in the power sector. I said to myself "alas, a new governing style, involving leadership apology for non-performance or not keeping promises is new in Nigeria!" I became hopeful and kept my FINGERS CROSSED! They are still crossed but I am getting uneasy because, even if there is no bridge yet, there should be hops and puffs by now, going around the country, inspecting critical sectors, setting deadlines, establishing a PROJECT MONITORING/REPORTING Task Force,  and showing evidence of SOMETHING DIFFERENT or UNIQUE! I am still waiting!
4. To list the transient progress in perfunctory duties of any legitimate Govt, which where almost on the ebb of total deterioration, as evidence of performance is leass than a C grade performance!
This is my candid opinon on this matter. Take care. JUI

eRG,

Who said anything about begining a project in May and reaping the benefits in 3 months--whatever you mean by that.  Didn't you see something about "intiate" programs in my comments?  Did you see "conclude".  Did you see "start"?  Anything about "finish?".   My comment stands.

You don't think Jonathan could have initiated programs about water, electricity, roads, or even complex things such as employment and security?  At the Presidential level, once he is sure the money is there for a given project, all he has to say is do it.  You think that much is "castle in air?"

In your line of thinking, nothing will ever get done until the 11th hour of last day of a 4 year term.  A Prez/Manager who has nothing to show in 3 months is not prepared for the job.  In the US, that person will hear about it.

Thanks.
