How can one be sure about the cause of another one’s death before a proper autopsy by a qualified and practiced pathologist? It is much too soon to be “sure” of the remote, proximate, and/or immediate cause of Babs Fafunwa’s death.
One might suspect that there are contributory factors to another one’s death but one cannot be sure that the suspect one or more contributory factor/factors is/are the primary cause of death.
Programs, like plans, policies, and budgets do matter Programs may be feasible or non-feasible, efficient or efficient, effective or not effective, right or wrong. They matter. Programs make plans action oriented. Thought informs actions. Two different groups’ goals and objectives may be the same but implementation causes one group’s goals and objectives to be successfully achieved, and the other group’s similar goals and objectives to not be successfully achieved. Different programs have different resource needs and other requirements and therefore different costs.
Programs along with policies and budgets, are an important part of plan implementation. If the program therefore is non-feasible, not effective, and inappropriate or wrong, goals and objectives are less likely to be achieved.
Should President Jonathan be “careful” about some of his utterances? The answer must be an unequivocal yes. Should leaders and public servants be held accountable for their decisions and actions? The answer again is an unequivocal yes.
Babs Fafunwa for me, was a great Nigerian and a pioneer Nigerian educator. He served Nigeria and the education world to the best of his ability. He will be missed.

D, just read that Babs Fafunwa died this morning. Last week i read that President Jonathan asked him to apologise for the failure of the 6-3-3-4 education system and he Fafunwa said he had nothing to apologise on. I am sure it is this issue that killed him. He must have been broken hearted to hear that the President openly gave him a vote of no confidence. I think the President should be careful on his utterances. In my opinion it is not the kind of programme we introduce that matters but how we make it work through the people who are supposed to run the programme as well as the content in the curricula.
Cheers.
