USA Africa Dialogue Series - RE: A CAMPAIGN FOR BUHARI ?

My MINIMUM for supporting Buhari's Presidential Bid are as follows:

1.     Buhari should make a PUBLIC STATEMENT TO DISPEL the Islamo-philia people have cloaked on him, stating emphatically that he upholds the Religious Secularity of the State and the freedom of individuals to practice the religion of their choice;

2.     That he will not Islamatize the Presidency because Nigerians consider him less favorably among other prospects who are now seen to be more open-minded than Buhari on religious issues.

In fact, such a statement will further enhance Buhari because his STRENGTH OF CHARACTER, his INCORRUPILITY, and his steadfastness on the RELEVANT issues will then take the Center-stage.

Take care. Joe Igietseme

Good men and women should rise up and support an alternative to the PDP and in my opinion BUHARI, UTOMI,TINUBU, YINKA, RIBADU and others represent our best hope for now. MB

Now when you say this people come up with the argument of whether Buahi is a saint. The truth is that Buahi is not a saint    and he has never claimed to be one. What remains very clear to all is that Buhari stands taller than all his colleagues who are part of PDP today as a military man and as a civilian. This is the issue, it is not about whether the man is Nigeria's messiah. Nigerians are not even seeking for a messiah. What Nigerians are desperately looking for in 2011 is a strong willed     personality who can not be intimitaded by the entrenched poliical interest which PDP represents and whose past record is not as blemished as the others lest the noose of corruption or allegation of corruption comes on his neck and he gets truncated. Buhari will past this test recoding higher grade than all other aspirants outside of PDP. I am not too sure anyone in the presidential race under the PDP leaking umbrella will even make a D+

And knowing that Buari is not a superman, he needs the zeal and brilliance of the likes of Rinabu,Utomi, Yinka and co. This is the issue and the agenda that we must push in 2011

My only concern at this stage is that everything about both Buhari and Nuhu has been limited to their integrity as former HOS and former EFCC chief respectively. This is OK but Nigerians needs to know more, in concrete terms what Buhari seeks to do beginning from May 29,2011. By this I mean what Nigerians expect in  Buhari presidency on matters such as:

1) Electricity

2) Infrastructural develeopment with focus on Roads

3) Diversification of internally generated revenue sources thus changing Nigeria from a mono product economy to a multi product economy

4) Employment

5) True and functional federalism to adress issues such as fiscal federalism, devolution of power to state and LG,s , presentialialism versus parliamentary system of government, the role of parties in politics at both federal and states levels and the possibility of non-party politics at the government level, state police etc.

6) Education: what role for Federal and states government

7) Health: A well articulated policy is desirable in this area with claer cut role assigned for states in the delivery of functional health care for Nigerians at primary, secondar and tertiary levels.

8) Nigeria secularity

9)The role of Local government in Nigerian must be redefined.

10) Security.

It is my considered opinion that Buahri needs to COME OUT with clear policy actions on all these and more. What is being bandied around in the name of manifesto by almost all our presidential hopefuls  and even the hopeless among them is nothing different from academic and professional resumes/CV,s telling Nigerians the schools they went to . We alraedy know all these. How I wish educational qualifications of those before them had been put to good use. I wonder what Nigerians stand to benefit fromreading about Nuhu Ribadu being an alumnus of ABU and that he went to law school. We already know that. In the same way, Nigerians are no longer intererested in reading about General Buhari being a former HOS and a one time Governor and chair of PTF.We know all these. Or is it of any importance for Nigerians to be bored once again with the details of Dele Momodu being the publisher of Ovation and an ex-Ife. How does this address our dysfunctional education, complete collapse of infrastructure such as roads and electricity? These are things Nigerians want to hear and not whether or not somebody supported June 12 or was aginst OBJ third term bid.

So, I challenge Generakl Buhari and his handlers to get into spoecfics NOW

Peter,

Buhari did not write the Nigerian constitution, nor was he a member of the National Assembly, he was neither a Governor nor President.

Why was this same question not put to OBJ or Abdulsalam, the Attorney General under OBJ could have seek the interpretation of the Supreme Court. GEJ could do the same! Why wait for Buhari.

Those who keep flogging this issue are just plain mischievous! It is a similar nonsense when some pastors went to get a pledge from Buhari before 2007 election(selection) that he has to pledge that he will take Nigeria out of OIC, when he gets elected.

On hearing that, his response was he was not the one who took Nigeria to OIC, and they should give him evidence that they had put the same preposition to the then President OBJ and the National Assembly? Then he is willing to look at the circumstances. These pastors said they have not, and that OBJ would not listen to them anyway,Buhari then told them they should take the issue to the National Assembly in writing through their representatives now.

Some Nigerians are notorious for dishonesty when it comes to issues like these. Any serious Nigerian will tell you, what we have is the PDP that has suffocated Democracy and rampaged through Nigeria within the last 13 years evidence of which is becoming apparent by day.

GEJ,OBJ,IBB,ATIKU,SARAKI,ADAMU BELLO,GOJE, OUK belong to the same political group and represent the same crooked and destructive mentality of undermining our collective progressive aspiration.

Good men and women should rise up and support an alternative to the PDP and in my opinion BUHARI, UTOMI,TINUBU, YINKA, RIBADU and others represent our best hope for now.

Did you pose same question of Obasanjo? Why is Sharia your concern? Is Sharia bunkering oil in the Niger Delta? Is Sharia kidnapping people in Abia? What exactly is your problem with Sharia, that you must know what Buhari or any others think about it. You're talking about rescinding law. When last was a single law rescinded in Nigeria, can you tell? Now, who is your candidate in this who presidential race exercise? Do you have any or are you just wandering about looking for some other about whom to demagogue?

My dear friend, quit with the circular  rhetoric--it was a simple question of policy matter  ---American Presidents do the same --rescind laws enacted by their predecessors -- is Buhari going to abolish Sharia Law as shown to be in violation of the Rule of Law -the Nigerian Constitution. Yes or No, no turenchi!

My friend, go ask Obasanjo, your Christian brother, on whose watch Sharia flourished. Buhari has neither time nor need for religion in leadership. He was there before, two Muslims, him and his deputy, Idiagbon, and during that time, religion was no issue. Some want Buhari to say something about religious unrest or save Nigeria from religious unrest. Folks, the last time Buhari was the leader of Nigeria, was 1985, two decades plus ago. How does Buhari save you if he has no such power? Now, you make him Nigeria's president in 2011, and see religious unrest NO MORE. Make Buhari president in 2011 and see thieves in government NO MORE. Make Buhari president in 2011 and see Nigerians working 24/7. Give Buharit the power and complain no more. Guaranteed.

speaking of policies? doesn't the institution of the SHARIA law in the North violate precedence  the Nigerian Constitution -- or are we to believe that Buhari will rescind the Sharia law which has been shown in application NOT only offensive to human life but indirect violation of the 'rule of law'.

Chinwuba - You are talking to a vulture, no name "odera", the dirtiest Igbo person alive. A piece of human refuse.

He posted a dirt on Buhari yesterday, and he had not a single bite, not by Igbo, not by Yoruba, not by Hausa or Fulani.

That shows the no name "odera" a lifelong crook, smear artist and criminal blackmailer is the only stinking dirty creature hereabouts. A crawling worm.

He is such a dunce, such an illiterate no to understand what an abominable creature he is.

Shame

Dear Oderaigbo,

I am very deeply disappointed at your posting.  The pictures you have copied is from UK and not Nigeria. Buhari is a true Muslim who loves his religion just like I am a Christian and adores my faith,  What is wrong with that?.  Please can you also show us the pictures of President Goodluck worshipping in his church.

Buhari is the best person to lead Nigeria at this difficult time in our nationhood. We should not play ethnic or religious politics with sentimental attachment to bigotry as you have displayed.  I hope you will be mature enough to engage in politics of constructive criticism.

The corruption under your avowed support of PDP is killing Nigeria and the govt of Goodluck seems not to be abreast with the governance of Nigeria.  We can re-brand Nigeria as you guys want us to believe but the simple fact is that PDP has no credibility to lead Nigeria.  They may rig and win the next election but it will take Nigeria back 20years.

I will strongly suggest that you re-focus on policy and issue base discussion and not cheap blackmail.

Regards

Phil Chinwuba Esq
