MYSTERY OF THE GUINEAN PRESIDENTIAL VOTING
By Abdoulaye Boye
Posted Nov. 15, 2010

In the New York regional voting area, Cellou Dalein Diallo trounced opposition leader and declared winner of the presidential elections in Guinea, Alpha Conde, by a whopping 2,790 to 600 votes. In the June 27, 2010, elections in Guinea, Cellou Dalein Diallo also trounced Alpha Conde by 44% to 18%. Yet, Mr. Conde won the November 7, 2010, presidential elections by 52.5% of the vote. It means only 3.5% more of the electorate voted for Mr. Diallo the second time around. In the New York regional voting area - we didn't get the Washington, DC, area result, our correspondent Abdoulaye Boye was there at the Percy Sutton Academic Campus in Harlem to record this an historic occasion for Guineans, the first democratic elections ever held in Guinea since the country became independent from France 52 years ago.
