Dear Mr. Ayeni,

Thanks.

The video does make one think about the purpose of education in the 21st century. I would recommend that it be sent to the Minister and all the commissioners of education in Nigeria. There is something in it for them to ponder about the kind of thinking required to reform the education system in Nigeria.

I have forwarded it to the Commissioner of Education in my State (Edo).

Regards,
jOo

Dear jOo:

Many thanks for sharing this! Very useful!

We have ways to go in Nigeria to understand the realities so eloquently presented in the video. The education that works for the 21st century is the one that focuses the mind on the question of WHO ARE MY BECOMING? The question applies to the teacher as much as it is to the learner(or the taught). To what degree am I part of the solution to societal problems and to what degree am I part of the problems? A purpose driven education in the 21st Century must promote self examination to discern clearly when one is adding value to human life or reducing the value of human life. In Nigeria, there is no evidence that our education has done much of this in the past 50 years. A society without a value system that holds the entities together has no reference point by which it may assess itself, whether it is making progress or not. We must change course, if we are to meet the challenges of the 21st Centuiry. If we don't, we shall be left further behind until the system implodes completely.

We can trace all the troubles the country has faced this past 50 years to the purposelessness of the educational system!

May God grant us the wisdom we need to be able to develop that educational system that ensures a great future for our dear country.

Be blessed, Albert
