USA Africa Dialogue Series - Re: NUC Approves Rivers Varsity Of Education - GLORIFIED SECONDARY SCHOOLS

THIS IDEA OF OPENING NEW UNIVERSITIES IN NIGERA FOR NAMES STATUS IS A SHAME. THE IS NO UNIVERSITY IN NIGERIA THAT HAS ANY MEASURABLE STANDARD OR QUALITY. THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT AND  STATE GOVERNMENT IN NIGERIA ARE NOT FUNDING  OR IMPROVING  THE EXISITING SCHOOLS TO BRING THEM TO STANDARD. THE IS NO SINGLE UNIVERSITY IN NIGERIA WITH A GOOD STANDARD IN AFRICA OR THE WORLD. THERE ARE ALL SHELLS AND EMPTY INFLATABLE SACKS OF SHAFTS.
ONE NEED TO VISIT ANY UNIVERSITY IN NIGERIA, THERE HAVE BEEN TURNED INTO PROSTITUTION POINTS, CRIME AND CULT AREAS WERE SEX, ALCOHOL, DRUGS, CULT, CRIME, KIDNAPPING AND ALL VICES ARE BOOMING. JUST VISIT ONE.

IN AFRICAN STANDARD AND RANKING  NO NIGERIA UNIVERSITY IS AMONG THE FIRST 20 (TWENTY) IN AFRICA.  IT IS DOMINATED BY SOUTH AFRICA, GHANA, KENYA, TANZANIA, AND OTHER SOUTH AFRICAN COUNTRIES. NIGERIA UNIVERSITIES DOES NOT EVEN SHOW UP IN WORLD RANKING ANYWHERE IN ANY MEASURE.

FEDERAL UNIVERSITY IN IBADAN, IFE, LAGOS, NSUKKA, ENUGU, KANO WHICH ARE THE PREMIER UNIVERSITIES IN NIGERIA DOES NOT HAVE ANY RANKING IN  AFRICA OR THE WORLD AND ARE NOT EVEN AMONG THE FIRST 20 OR 30 IN AFRICA,  AND THAT IS WHY FORMER PRESIDENT MUSA YARADUA TOLD THESE PREMIER UNIVERSITES IN NIGERIA - WHICH ARE ALWAYS BRAGGING AND MAKING NOISE LIKE FEDERAL UNIVERSITIES IN IBADAN, IFE, LAGOS(UNILAG), BAYERO, NSUKKA, ENUGU, ETC THAT THEY ARE ALL PLAYING LOCAL CHAMPIONS, BECAUSE NON OF THEM IS RANKED IN AFRICA OR THE WORLD IN ANY THING -NONE OF THEM IS RANKED  IN RESEARCH, NOTE IN SCIENCE, NOT IN HUMANITIES, ETC.

INFACT TO KNOW THE REASON THAT NIGERIA UNIVERSITIES ARE JUST GLORIFIED SECONDARY SCHOOLS AND USELESS, NIGERIANS IN DROVES ARES SENDING THEIR CHILDREN TO SCHOOLS IN GHANA, SOUTH AFRICA, KENYA, TANZANIA ETC IN AFRICA. THE WORST PART OF IT IS THAT UNLIKE BEFORE IN THE 70S AND 80S AFRICANS STUDENTS AND FOREIGNERS USED TO FLOOD INTO NIGERIA UNIVERSITIES, BUT NOW AFRICAN STUDENTS FROM AFRICAN COUNTRIES AND OTHER COUNTRIES DO NOT SEND THEIR STUDENTS TO NIGERIA UNIVERSITIES BECAUSE OF LOW QUALITY EDUCATION,  CRIME AND CULT. UNIVERSITY EDUCATION IN NIGERIA IS DEAD.

ALL THESE EFFORT IN OPENING UP NEW (GLORIFIED SECONDARY SCHOOLS) UNIVERSITES WITHOUT FUNDING AND IMPROVING THEM IS GOING TO CONTINUE DUMBING DOWN EDUCATION IN NIGERIA FOREVER.

NOW ALL GREAT NIGERIA UNIVERSITY PROFESSORS AND UNIVERSITY TEACHERS IN NIGERIA PREMIER UNIVERSITES IN IBADAN, IFE, UNILAG, NSUKKA AND BAYERO KANO HAVE NOW BECOMES PASTORS AND IMAMS AND ALL OF THEM HAVE OPEN CHURCHES AND MOSQUES IN LAGOS AND KANO AND ARE NOW PREACHING FOR DOLLARS INSTEAD OF TEACHING,  AND THEY ALL HAVE PRIVATE JETS NOW FROM MONEY COLLECTED FROM WORSHIPPERS.

THE BEST UNIVERSITY TEACHERS IN NIGERIA HAVE ABONDONED TEACHING AND ARE NOW CONTRACTORS, POLITICANS, PASTORS, IMAMS AND KIDNAPPERS.

IT IS A SHAME INDEED.

Ogun state was the first to get this done in 2004 under the able leadership of OGD. With the upgrade of Tai Solarin college of Education to a university of Education, we could not, but indeed agree that Ogun is truly the gateway state in Nigeria.

The National Universities Commission (NUC) yesterday in Abuja formally endorsed the upgrading of the Rivers State College of Education (COE) to the University of Education (UOE) and presented letter of recognition to the state government. By this development, COE is now the 35th state-owned University in the country.

The endorsement of the Rivers State University of Education and presentation of the letter of recognition' by the NUC was done at the NUC secretariat in Maitama District of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) by the Executive Secretary, Prof. Julius Okojie. The impressive ceremony attended by the State Deputy Governor, Engr.  Tele Ikuru who represented Governor Rotimi Amaechi, Secretary to the State Government Mr. Magnus  Abe and Commissioner for Information and Communications, Mrs. Ibim Semenitari as well as the Acting Vice Chancellor of the new University, Prof. Rosemond Green-Osahogulu.

Speaking at the presentation, Prof. okojie commended the Rivers State government for the giant strides it has recorded in the education sector and assured that the NUC was standing by its quest to take education to the next level in the state.

"I must commend your government for what you are doing in education. I appreciate what you are doing. I wish you well. At the appropriate time, you'll know that we (NUC) are really here for you", he said, adding that the commission would soon embark on an inspection of the facilities at the new university that has three campuses, after which candidates seeking admission  into the university will be doing so through the Joint Matriculation Examination (JME) organised by the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB).

"Upon verification, JAMB would commence admission formalities", he said. In the spirit of giving the state government necessary support for the attainment of its lofty dreams in education, Prof. Okojie pledged  that the commission would wade into the strike embarked upon by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).

Governor Amaechi speaking through his Deputy, Engr. Tele Ikuru thanked Okojie immensely for all the effort  made to ensure recognition for University of Education".

He assured NUC that it would be proud of the new University of Education as it would not be disappointed at the new status of the institution noting that the state government would do everything possible to sustain the new status of the institution including moving the University to a new site.

"We are moving the current university of Science and Techonolgy to 2,000 hectares of land. We'll move the present University of Education to that campus too", he assured.

Amaechi said, the problem they had was that of poverty among Rivers people, and to deal with it, "we resolved to put education in the right perspective and take the people out of poverty.

The ceremony featured  presentation of NUC newsletter to the state government.
