This year's theme, "Global Engagement of Local Leadership for Universal Progress," is particularly critical as communities across the world face escalating challenges to progress. The primary focus of the conference will be restoring, strengthening, and uplifting working relationships and collaborations among the various participating leaders. Through the seven areas of focus which are Trust, Training, Trade, Treasury, Twin Cities, Technology and Tourism. Conference sessions will provide an opportunity to enhance the individual capacities of local governments to discuss and develop strategies to solve universal problems of municipalities. As many countries still face the challenges of building and strengthening a viable local government system out of decades of centralized organs of government, the World Summit of Mayors will feature various country reports that can illustrate the instrumental role of local government leaders in addressing the issues, needs and concerns of the people and communities. The conference will gather over 250 local government leaders throughout Africa and the African Diaspora. Delegations will represent the full spectrum of the African Diaspora, with a focus on African-American, Afro-Caribbean, Afro-Latino, Afro-European and Afro-Asian. The key outcome determined from the conference will be to forge sustainable public-private partnerships and establish multinational local government collaborations and areas of cooperation that may impact the global landscape of the development across the Diaspora.
