My progress so far is taking me through Benin Olokun graphic art,Akan/Gyaman Adinkra symbolism and the Yoruba/Orisa Ifa system My work has enabled me to demonstrate hitherto undeveloped interpretive possibilities of these systems as well as demonstrate relationships between them and other systems within and beyond Africa. My interest beyond the primary systems I have ben working with has been in classical Zulu thought as described by Mazisi Kunene,Voodoo/Vodun symbolism, particularly about the loa or deity Papa Legba,Fulani/Malian systems as expounded by Amadou Hampate Ba and Germaine Deiterlen and the poet who created the Fulani creation story where, in the beginning, there was a huge drop of milk,as well as Asian thought and art, particularly Indian philosophy,Hinduism and Buddhism and Western esoteric thought and its intersection with Western esotericism.
What these developments mean for me is that I am gradually developing the capacity to examine various phenomena in a manner that enables me to see them through the lens of a variety of world views,African,Asian and Western. These developments also assist me in appreciating relationships between various approaches to knowledge developed in these civilizations, particularly the relationship between the exoteric and the esoteric and the relationships between them across cultures, both cognitive and ethnic.
I will share these developments with you as time goes on.
Thanks
Toyin
