Subject: [OmoOdua] A black man can't even play God in a movie?

Apparently, a black man can't be God . . . even in fiction. The Council of Conservative Citizens is asking people to boycott the upcoming 'Thor' movie because Idris Elba was cast as the God Heimdall.
Hollywood has always stirred up controversy with their racial miscastings, but black folks weren't too up in arms when Mena Suvari played Chante Mallard in "Stuck" when the real Chante Mallard was a heavy set African American woman. We may have caused a stink when Angelina Jolie was cast as Cleopatra in the upcoming film since Elizabeth Taylor also played the Egyptian queen years ago. But never have we threatened to boycott.
But The Council of Conservative Citizens are all up in arms over Idris Elba being cast as Heimdall in the upcoming "Thor" movie and are for people to join in an online boycott of the film. Apparently, in Norse mythology (emphasis on mythology) Heimdall was "white" so they feel that Marvel Studios are making a tremendous error and are "declaring war on Norse mythology" by casting a Black man in a role that is totally based on something that never happened. Check out how pissed off they are over the Heimdall role going to Elba.
Secondly, they say that white people can't have anything that is "unique to themselves." Seriously? America was pretty much "yours" for what feels like an eternity. Most of the awards for film have gone to white people -- which is why we celebrate when we win anything. Kill that noise of having something "unique" to yourself. Everyone else in the "Thor" movie is white. Hell, every major superhero in the upcoming "The Avengers" movie is white.
Finally, it's mythology meaning, it isn't real! Sheesh.
We haven't seen racists this mad since Barack Obama became president.

First of all, how insulting is it that they don't even recognize Elba as an actor and try to undermine him by calling him a "Hip Hop DJ." Sure, he is known to spin records in his spare time, but he is also an established actor who has played in a slew of films and will be forever recognized as Stringer Bell in "The Wire.""It seems that Marvel Studios believes that white people should have nothing that is unique to themselves. An upcoming movie, based on the comic book Thor, will give Norse mythology an insulting multi-cultural make-over. One of the Gods will be played by Hip Hop DJ Idris Elba."
