Victory is in Sight: Progress so far
I write to express my profound gratitude for the steadfast and unflinching support you have given me in our collective quest to entrench responsive and responsible leadership in Nigeria. I am also happy to inform you that a first critical battle has been won with my emergence as the candidate of my party, the ACN for the Kaduna North Senatorial Zone.
2. In the months since embarking on this quest, I have visited every major settlement in all eight local government areas in the zone. The lessons cannot be stated in this letter, needless to say that government neglect of vital sectors of our society and our constituents have left most people extremely cynical. There is virtually no difference between our urban and rural communities. Our cities are in every respect dirtier than our villages; they are equally ugly and our people in the cities resemble very much our rural folks. I can however report that the effort of my campaign team and I to personally engage voters in every possible locality have had a huge impact in the zone as the ACN is now the party to beat. The reception I received in many towns and villages have been deeply humbling.
3. We are moving into the stages of the campaign very confident of victory. Our priorities are mobilising our women and our youths. Through the campaign activities, we are going to initiate key programmes in line with our campaign promises. Accordingly, our women committee are commencing open air activities on Saturday, January 15, 2011. It will be the first in the series of activities that will lead to strategic intervention initiatives that will lay the foundation for the development of support structures for women in the constituency. The details will emerge through participatory framework and based on the needs of the women.
4. In terms of programme for young people, we have setup mechanism for the development of Youth initiatives geared towards provision of scholarships, skills acquisitions and provision of small capital for beneficiaries start a business. The initial activity will commence with a Town Hall Meeting involving at least 40 young people from each of the 8 Local Governments of the Constituency. This is scheduled to hold on Saturday, January 22, 2011 at Saminaka. This will be the first activity that will lead to the identification of 5 beneficiaries from each of the 8 Local Governments. Again, the details would emerge through participatory framework. Our youth initiatives are being developed with the support of Dr. Yusuf Bala Usman Centre, Zaria
5. Given the nature of our campaign programmes, we believe that our slogan ‘It is possible to be different’ has been proven and to that extent We are Different. Every activity of our campaign, every step and initiative will prove our distinction! Our slogans, songs and messages shall depart from the destructive approaches to politics of innovation, capacity development, above all developing our people and building our communities.
6. We have so far expended more than N16 million in the campaigns through your invaluable contributions. As we move forward to the final stages of the struggle, I wish to, like Oliver Twist seek for your assistance once again. As I stated previously, we cannot change the system by remaining bystanders in the political process. Some of us have volunteered to march to the frontlines, but need your support to finance pivotal aspects of the electoral campaign. Having won the primaries with such an overwhelming and uncontested support, it is my wish to humbly seek your modest contribution to the campaign effort.
7. Your contributions will facilitate the final push and help to recruit campaign staff and volunteers, procurement of campaign vehicles, hiring of for meetings and other logistical needs. Kindly channel your contributions to the following account: Salihu M. Lukman: Bank PHB 1011484448
8. I thank you sincerely for your assistance and assure you that I shall not betray the vision of service to the people which has been my driving force.
Salihu Moh. Lukman
2011 ACN Senatorial Candidate, Kaduna North
