USA Africa Dialogue Series - Re: On this Matter of an Electoral Contest Today between GEJ, BHR and RBD: The Bottom Line {Re: Buhari, Ribadu In Secret Meeting; Odumakin appointed }

Bolaji;

The problem is here is that none of the present aspirants commands the trust of Nigerians in possessing what they would like to see in a President of 21st century Nigeria.
A Federal Minister once told me: Nigeria at this time needs the courage of Ribadu, the experience and political sagacity of Babangida, the economic pragmatism of Atiku Abubakar, the humility of Goodluck Jonathan, and the discipline of Buhari.
In other words, the president you go for depends on what you think is Nigeria's most pressing problem; if you believe corruption is the most pressing problem go for Buhari, if you need economic competence, go for Atiku, if you believe in stability and competent experience, go for IBB, if you need a paradigm shift go for Ribadu or Goodluck.

In my mind, the 2 most important issues in Nigeria today are economy and corruption, now who in your list below can we CONFIDENTLY stands out in solving the twin issues of competent economic management and battling corruption?

"Why does a country that relies for 90 per cent of its income on oil, which has seen a big rise in price, need to run down its foreign exchange reserves? For these reasons we are not buying the bond."...But they eventually bought them, only on very harsh terms for Nigeria.

Subject: [Naijaintellects] On this Matter of an Electoral Contest Today between GEJ, BHR and RBD: The Bottom Line {Re: Buhari, Ribadu In Secret Meeting; Odumakin appointed }

Dear All:'

I am very amused at the discussions going between various  Internet combatants about the relative merits and demerits between Goodluck Jonathan, Muhammadu Buhri and Nuhu Ribadu.  In fact, the most interesting development is that it is the supporters of Buhari and Ribadu that are doing their utmost to tear each other's principal down.

But these candidates - like the argumentators -  are all grown men whose records are there in the open.  They are neither from Mars or from Venus, but from Otueke, Dauara and Yola respectively, 50, 70 and 50 years old respectively.  Their lives and records are a fairly open book.

However,  the bottom line questions that each one of us must  answer are the following:

1.  In a head to head contest, who would you choose:

          Jonathan______________    Buhari ______________

2.  In a head to head contest, who would you choose:

        Jonathan _______________  Ribadu ______________

3.  In a head to head contest, who would you choose:

       Buhari _________________  Ribadu _____________

4.  In a three-way contest, who would you choose:

       Jonathan ______________ Buhari ________________   Ribadu _________________

My two comments:

1,  If everywhere Jonathan is on the ticket, you choose him, then you are being consistent, if you a Jonathan supporter.  Ditto Buhari if you are Buhari supporter, Ditto Ribadu if a Ribadu supporter.

2.  Now, however, if, in  head-to-head contest that exludes their principal, a Ribadu supporter chooses Jonathan over Buhari, or a Buhari supporter chooses Jonathan over Ribadu, then that person has some explanation to give to us all as to his or her seeming lack of principles.

These are the bottom lines as I see them.....minds might have ossfied already, so I ask us to cool it.
