I thank God for these wonderful political developments even though I am not ready to give my life for Nigeria.

Twelve things Nigerians can learn from revolutions in Tunisia, Egypt, etc: (not that these should serve as ideals!)1. People can and do compel leaders (in politics, business, religion, academia, etc) to make positive changes2. People have power to effect positive changes3. Death resulting from participation in peaceful demonstration aimed at effecting positive changes is okay and should be accepted!4. Most leaders would not make any meaningful changes if there is no pressure on them from the people5. While prayer is good for a society, there is no case in history where prayers have led to leaders making meaningful changes in the society!6. Waiting for Europe, USA, etc to come and effect positive changes in Nigeria for Nigerians is like waiting and hoping that someday, somehow Nigerians will wake up and walla, the entire country is developed and life is just good because God has answered our prayers! Such has never happened and will not happen!7. Running away from Nigeria and hoping to "return when things are good" is hoping for "manner to fall from heaven." It never happened and will not happen!8. Working for one Nigeria, despite inherent challenges, has much more benefits for every Nigerian than working for "breaking Nigeria into 2-3 countries". The latter will only lead to more problems. Afterall which "group" in Nigeria has verifiable evidence of working together within itself?9. Embracing our diversity in religion, tribe, etc and finding ways to harness this diversity is better for every Nigerian and for Nigeria than allowing such diversity to destroy us..as is currently being done!10. Cowardice is a disease that incapacitates a people and consequently makes the country a place for others to use, misuse and reject!12. History has shown that most developed nations where leaders do the right thing for the people and for the country have had to undergo some form of people-led revolution (please note that secession does not qualify as a revolution in this regard!)11 Giving leaders "awards" for doing nothing in the hope that such will change their minds to do the right thing has not been shown by any study to lead to optimal performance from the leaders. On the contrary, studies have shown that such premature "awards" often lead to mediocre performance! In essence, awards, per se, are designed for accomplishments not for "hope that something will be accomplished"!Joe UdeajaFrom: Mobolaji ALUKO <alukome@gmail.com>
