ABIDJAN, Ivory Coast — An adviser to the man who is internationally recognized as Ivory Coast's president says commandos ambushed and killed forces loyal to the incumbent president.
The adviser to Alassane Ouattara said Wednesday that "invisible commandos" killed troops loyal to incumbent leader Laurent Gbagbo on Tuesday. He says the commandos seized at least four military and police vehicles in the pro-Ouattara neighbourhood in Abidjan.
The death toll could not be independently confirmed.
The adviser asked not to be named because of the sensitivity of the matter.
The PK-18 neighbourhood has been the scene of brutal attacks by security forces loyal to Gbagbo, who refuses to cede power after the UN said he lost November's poll.
