The Rift Valley Institute will be teaching a course on the Great Lakes, to be held in Bujumbura (Burundi)
from July 9-15. This is a week-long intensive course of readings, lectures, and discussions on the politics
and history of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Rwanda and Burundi intended for anybody who works on the
region---journalists, academics, diplomats and humanitarian officials. This years' instructors include
Isidore Ndaywel (University of Kinshasa), Filip Reytnjens (University of Antwerp), Catharine Newbury (Smith College),
David Newbury (Smith College), Pascal Kambale (Open Society Foundation), and Koen Vlassenroot (University of Ghent).
