Interim Constitution of South Sudan (ICSS) Review Commission
Dear All,
AMDISS is looking to participate and contribute to the ICSS review process by a submission on Freedom of Expression and Equality stipulations in the ICSS, deriving from adoption and endorsement of Article 19 Camden Principles, much of which constitute the basis of media policy and legal framework legislation advocated by AMDISS in South Sudan since 2005, policy and legislation which the Government is minded to pass and give effect to by law and constitutional provisions to protect the right to freedom of expression and the right to equality.
AMDISS is convening a media gathering in Juba Grand Hotel on 23-25 Feb 2011 with a view to promote greater consensus on the proposed submission to the ICSS Review Commission.Civil society groups, media outlets, constitutional lawyers and media law advocates, experts and academics in constitutional law, media and mass communications are all invited to attend an open session on 25th February 2011, AMDISS Board Meeting on 24th February is also open to non-members and members of the public as observers.
These series of meetings are convened as part of civil society initiative on broad based consultations on the interim constitution review process, and with a view to make submissions to the ICSS review commission on the following key human rights stipulations:
Right to freedom of expression
Right to equality
Right to Information
Economic, social and cultural rights (as enshrined in the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights – ICESCR)
