From Oladimeji Aborisade: My reaction to the Presidential Campaign Stampeding:
Campaign language,Campaign behavior, Campaign tactics all cumulate to define the personality of the candidate as well as the party politics.
The President and his Vice opened their Presidential campaign bid at the South South Geo Political Zone on February 12, 2011 with at least twenty people dead and several others severely wounded.
When I read this information from the Punch of Sunday, February 13, 2011, I said " how many campaign meetings are likely to hold between now and April 2011 and how many casualities are forcasted or put it this way,
how many Nigerians are likely to be killed before April 2011.
As the inuagural campaign turned to be sad, we must anticipate more difficult days ahead. Unfortunately, the President'the Vice and well placed PDP supporters were present and witnessed the ugly campaign.
If this is the way the ruling party'PDP plans to run the 2011 campaign meetings, I think we must be careful to attend campaign rallies. May be one can stay at home and watch their rude campaign styles.
A campaign gathering is supposed to be educative but if it turns to stampeding, I urge individual to be more careful. Perhaps one may appeal to the President and the Inspector General of Police that poor campaign behavior is not ideal and should not be tolerated.
Thank you,
Professor Oladimeji Aborisade.
