The Honorable Hillary Clinton
US Secretary of State
Department of State
Washington, DC

Dear Secretary Clinton:

In your February 28 speech to the United Nations Human Rights Council, you claimed that Col. Gaddafi was using mercenaries to kill Libyans. This unsupported allegation of yours has fueled the slaughter of black Africans in Libya by the anti-Gaddafi forces and protesters, who are now citing your statement as evidence that sub-Saharan Africans are fighting for Gaddafi and shedding the blood of unarmed Libyan demonstrators.

Upon receiving credible reports of increased racist attacks on black Africans in Libya in the wake of your speech in Geneva, the United States of Africa 2017 Project Taskforce calls on the United States government to take full responsibility for your reckless use of the word "mercenaries" that has further endangered the lives of sub-Saharan Africans in Libya and worsened the racially motivated killings of black Africans by members of the anti-Gaddafi uprising.

Since your "mercenaries" claim has incited and escalated the slaughter of blacks in Libya, the United States of 2017 Project Taskforce calls on the US government to intervene immediately and save the lives of besieged black African immigrant workers that your remark has put at risk. Remind the Libyan people that sub-Saharan Africans in their country have absolutely nothing to do with the events in Libya and that Arabs in sub-Saharan Africa have never been targeted due to their ethnicity.

Inaction to reverse the homophobic, xenophobic and racist killings fueled by your "mercenaries" claim stands to be considered complicity on the part of the US government in the Arab racism and bloodshed. We request any evidence you relied on to say that mercenaries and, therefore, imply that black Africans were involved in the killing of Libyan protesters.

Sincerely,

Bosire Mosi
Director of Communications
USAfrica 2017 Project TaskForce
