Dear Dele:
I have read a few posts under a thread with the header urging that Jega should be applauded
for cancelling the elections that were slated for April 2-- a move that probably averted a major national political crisis.
What I have not read is any opinion that commends Jega for botching the first leg
of the electoral process considering that this will be not only condoning but in fact also celebrating failure..
The overwhelming majority of Nigerians are no doubt disappointed at the developments, but their disappointment
stops short of requesting that Jega resigns at this crucial stage of the electoral
process. One does not fire the referee. of a relay race simply because of a false start
even if the fault is due to malfunction of his gun.
Similarly a prudent manager would not fire the coach of a relay race
simply because his athletes made an error in passing the baton.
I share your sentiments that it is time to turn over the governance of Nigeria to the youths, even as I must caution
that the youths of Nigeria do not necessarily have a lock on all the wisdom about governance in Nigeria--that might have eluded
the older generation.
The average age of the national assembly is well below 45 years. The speaker of the HOR, Hon. Dimeji Bankole is probably still under
40. The positions of Chairmen and councillors of LGAs nationwide are for the most part occupied by Nigerians who are still under 45.
Thus the solution to the problem of governance in Nigeria is not so much with the age of the office holders, but rather with electing
and appointing as you emphasized competent and well connected
Nigerians of high moral integrity to positions in which they are welll suited to perform.
The young politicians in Nigeria are no less corrupt on average than the older ones!
Thanks for standing up to be counted as one of the Presidential candidates and Best Wishes
for Good Results on April 26!
Bye,
Ola

Really happy to read here that Jega was well applauded by all. That's what a nation gets when everyone is looking for a Pope above competence. Knowledge, currency of ideas, global outlook, exposure, business acumen, adaptability, contacts, modern experience etc. We are about to commit the same mass suicide again by not looking well before applauding some Saints in politics above young, smart, charismatic, brilliant, intelligent, vibrant, accomplished, eloquent, self-made Nigerians who may not have access to looted public funds to run the jamboree we call campaigns here. Nigeria is the only country I know today where the youths who constitute about 70 percent of the electorates are saying they are not capable of leading their country and are willing to vote for a Pope no matter how old. It is only in our time that we voluntarily sell off our birthrights out of acute frusration. We are in modern times and require modern leaders to emerge among us. When tomorrow comes, we should blame no one for our litany of woes if we fail to control our collective destinies now. God bless Nigeria... DELE MOMODU

Was there any evidence that Buhari actually called Jega? Are there no people in the field who could have called the attention of Jega to what was going on, other than Buhari? Assuming ge actually did, does that mean they are working together. If Buhari had called Iwu, would it have made any difference, ethnic wise?
People are really funny and will believe anything.
In certain parts of Lagos, some people had already started voting while some had not even started accreditation because they were waiting for INEC officials.
After they stopped the process, those who had voted insisted on the results being counted and they did so in the presence of everyone. Of course ACN was leading but does that conclude anything? Does that mean they've won the whole Nigeria? Saharareporters announced the result of 3 wards out of thousands and already, Jega, Buhari and the north is coming under ethnic scrutiny!
I am sure in some other places, PDP will have its own scores. It all depends on where the party is strongest.
AAAA.

So the question is: is Jega secretly working for the CPC? Is he the insider for the Northern agenda? Buhari made a private call to Jega, and the election was cancelled. Now we have what, assuming the results are not forged, are INEC results leaking into CPC-friendly media. In the meanwhile, all the CPC propagandists -Rotimi Fash, Peter Opara, Idowu -nearly all are suddenly saying good things about Jega and even Jonathan !!!
Are we missing something here? Is this a coincidence? Something is smelling seriously fishy here.
Leaking these so-called results is a serious crime. It betrays serious insider partisanship inside INEC, and it is capable of derailing the entire electoral process. That we did not want PDP controlling the electoral process does not mean that control should now pass on to another partisan organization -the CPC. The Federal Government had better look into it. Something is seriously rotten @ INEC.

Idowu:These are illegal counts, and could not have followed the procedure laid down by INEC since no RESULTS SHEETS were available.
First, counting could not have STARTED until ALL the people who were accredited had finished. Was this the case in these places, since I know that by 12.40 pm to 1.30 pm, the announcement to stop all elections had been made? Who did the counting? Could they have BROKEN the seals of the ballot boxes without following due process?
But more importantly, INEC should tell the world with respect to the aborted April 2 elections:
- what wards had accreditation completed, and which did not.- what PUs had voting started and/or completed- what it wishes to do with aborted ballot papers, etc/.
That would be fulfilling all righteousness, and removing all suspicions.
