USA Africa Dialogue Series - LYDIA ERHIRE IS FREE!

..

Fellow Nigerians,

A travesty of justice has been righted! The British judiciary has redeemed itself! On appearance at the Royal Courts of Justice on Friday, 27th of April, 2011, pursuant to a new application by Dawson Cornwell Solicitors that Edirin Onojeta-Idogun should still be brought from Nigeria to England on the ground that, having become 18, he is now a vulnerable adult, Baker J, after hearing from both parties, ordered the immediate release of Lydia Erhire from prison unconditionally. I was at court to represent Respect Nigerians Coalition (RNC) and after her release, took Ms Erhire home to join her happy family!

As you all know, in the course of the trial, we have had to find her new solicitors we felt are better at handling this type of case and they come no bigger and better than the firm of Venters Solicitors. June Venters QC (the first female practicing solicitor to be made a Queen's Counsel) personally took charge of the case and Ms Ehrire instructed her that I am her sole representative and contact. I was constantly in touch with her throughout the proceedings both in court and outside court and I must say she is a marvelous woman whose professionalism, understanding, honesty and generosity of spirit saw this through! Lydia and I have called her after her release to thank her. It is important that the Nigerian community from everywhere call or write to thank her as well.

The firm's telephone number is: +441737 229610

Her personal email is: j.ventersqc@venters.co.uk

We must also thank Mr Deji Adejobi, a Nigerian solicitor and Founder and Principal of Ennon & Co Solicitors who actually recommended Venters Solicitors. I spent several days mulling over this case with Mr Adejobi who felt really strongly that this is injustice. He was also at HMP Holloway to see Ms Erhire pro-bono.

He can be reached by phone - : +020 7281 2123 or +447956804221

Please, Nigerians far and wide should call or write June Venters QC and Deji Adejobi to thank them for all they have done to help secure the freedom of Ms Lydia Erhire!

Respect Nigerians Coalition (RNC) shall be issuing a full Statement on this whole episode later. For now, Nigerians worldwide should celebrate with Ms Lydia Erhire who has borne all this with dignity and courage in the face of everything!

Thank you all for all your efforts!
