Mazini, Mazini, Mazini,
My good friend, have you considered this is simply an informal advisory group with no formal terms of contract with the university?
Also that there are sometimes reasons why bloodline is not a enough to disqualify appointments provided there is transparency and any conflicts are declared.
At least let's credit the nobility of the professor in being open and honest.
Our job is to keep him that way.

Tajudeen,I am loudly and vociferously against itAs eRG puts it, what stops President jonathan from placing his own siblings and family members in positions where they can derive benefits directly from the public fund?It is called decency and a sense of propriety. This is indecent and odious, if you ask me.WHAT WILL ANY BODY EXPECT FROM THESE NEW GLORIFIED SECONDARY SCHOOLS IN NIGERIA CALLED UNIVERSITIES, AND ONE TO BE RAN BY AN ALUKO.
ALUKO FAMILY WERE INVOLVED IN UNIVERSITY OF IFE AND WHAT HAPPENED IT WENT DOWN.
ALUKO FAMILY WERE INVOLVED IN UNIVERSITY OF IBADAN AND WHAT HAPPENED IT WENT DOWN.
ALUKO FAMILY WERE INVOLVED IN UNIVERSITY OF NIGERIA NSUKKA AND WHAT HAPPENED IT WENT DOWN.
NO NIGERIA UNIVERSITY IS AMONG AFRICA BEST 80 UNIVERSITIES ON REAL COMPARATIVE MEASURES. NIGERIA UNIVERSITIES HAVE DECLINED BACK TO STONE AGES AND THE ONLY EDUCATION HAPPENING THERE ARE STUDENTS POSTING PICTURES IN SURROUNDING CYBER CAFE ON FACE BOOK, 419 LETTERS (WHEN NEPA ALLOWS) AND PROSTITUTION.
ALUKO FAMILY WERE INVOLVED IN THE NIGERIA SENATE AS A SENATOR AND WHAT HAPPENED CORRUPTION WENT UP THE ROOF.
ALUKO FAMILY (PROFESSOR SAM ALUKO) WAS INVOLVED WITH ABACHA AS A MINISTER/ADVISER AND WHAT HAPPENDED TO THAT REGIME, IT BECAME THE MOST CORRUPT REGIME IN NIGERIA, AFRICA AND THE WORLD.
DO ANY SENSIBLE PERSON EXPECT ANY GOOD TO COME OUT OF OTUEKE WITH AN ALUKO INVOLVED - HELL NO. IF YOU MAY ASK HE LEFT HOWARD UNIVERISTY IN USA, AND THE QUESTION IS WAS HOWARD UNIVERSITY LEFT IN A BETTER SHAPE AFTER BOLAJI ALUKO LEFT - HELL NOOOOOO. INFACT HOWARD AND HIS DEPARTMENT ARE IN WORST SHAPE.
MAKE UNA GO SIDDON. ALL BOLAJI ALUKO IS DOING IS POSTURING WHILE THE FAMILY, FRIENDS AND BROTHERS ARE WAITING ON THE WINGS TO FEED OUT FROM IT, AND LEAVE IT IN BAD SHAPE AS USUAL. ALL THESE TOO EARLY TRANSPARENCY (WHEN IS NOT NEEDED IS JUST HOW HE IS SETTING UP FOR THE KILL.

I can say, without prejudice to the lofty ground work of prof Aluko, these new universities are just meant to be 'another' senseless PR stunt for this inept regime. Very soon, like the many 'glorified secondary schools' otherwise called Federal Universities, this new set of Universities shall be assailed with the same issues of funding and institutional decay.
Probably, Prof Aluko should prepare to tell rockefeller foundation and others to stand-by so that he is not disappointed at the end of the day.
As an electronics student in Unife, we had a semiconductor laboratory where research and low level manufacture could take place. The Nigerian Armed forces sent their personnel there, first for diploma and later degree. Why is it difficult to inject funds in there to make such a world-standard-based center? The answer is because GEJ must use that to deceive the electorate. With the GEJ I have watched from a distance, I am afraid nothing cogent would be done in infrastructural development of those schools UNTIL close to 2015 when he seeks renewal of his tenure.
As for me, I am not excited at it which is why, this is my first comment on this matter.Rotimi.

Prof,It can be irritating when somebody like me donot see the picture as you see it especially with your expertise and experince. There are also two sides to a story too.Are there no Engineering Institutitions with Management Sciences and No Hum/Soc Sc?
Are we at the same stage of Dev with USA?Why does Obama harp on R and D in Cutting edge Tech and Engineering for Manufacturing ,Competitive advantage and job creation? Will it be a disadvantage for Ngeria if you have only SET courses to start with it and become MIT in the Future when you have alumni who can give Otuoke money?I have not asked that compulsory general non-degree courses be done in Hum/Soc Sc.
Who I am to tell you and those who decided to create a University from Scratch when others (FED and States) are going down with ASUU strikes?
Those wo have established private ones are also entrapped in the same mental state.
GOODLUCK NIGERIA WITH PATIENCE AS YOU STRUGGLE IN OTUOKE.IW

General Ishola Williams:
Sometimes, your take on higher education is extremely narrow, Sir. You have a set view on how technology education should be, and you just constantly harp upon it.
Moving on...
You CANNOT for example, have a good science and engineering degree without a good liberal arts component. And while you do not have to have too many DEGREE programs in the humanities/social sciences, you should have SOME so that you can attract some of the best lecturers in that arena.
Have you heard of Noam Chomsky? He is one of the best known political science and linguist, etc. professors in the United States. And yet he is a Professor at MIT, best known for science and technology. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Noam_Chomsky
QUOTE
Avram Noam Chomsky ( /ˈnoÊŠm ˈtʃÉ'mski/; born December 7, 1928) is an American linguist, philosopher,[2][3] cognitive scientist, and activist. He is an Institute Professor and professor emeritus of linguistics at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.[4] Chomsky is well known in the academic and scientific community as one of the fathers of modern linguistics,[5][6][7] and a major figure of analytic philosophy.[2] Since the 1960s, he has become known more widely as a political dissident and an anarchist,[8] referring to himself as a libertarian socialist. Chomsky is the author of more than 150 books and has received worldwide attention for his views.
UNQUOTE
In the time being, your idea of using the experience of the oil and gas people in the area in the classroom is welcome, but one hopes to broaden that experience from just exploration to processing and value addition.
Also remember that it is NOT teaching new courses that really matters, but GETTING people to teach not only those new courses, but old courses in new ways.
Best wishes.
