David Cameron wants ministers to take the Tube to Games
Matthew Beard, Sports News Correspondent - Evening Standard

Ministers and top government officials should consider using the Tube instead of driving to the Olympics to help ease transport pressures on London, David Cameron signalled today.
Whitehall staff and ministers face being asked to swap their chauffeur-driven cars for public transport as a symbolic move to avoid congestion.
In an interview to mark the one-year countdown to the Games, the Prime Minister told the Standard of his "enormous excitement" as London prepared to celebrate with a huge party in Trafalgar Square tonight. Athletes gathered at the Olympic Park in Stratford and Games bosses declared all permanent venues complete.
Mr Cameron said: "We are in this good position of the facilities being completed a year in advance and we are in the position to test and make sure everything is pitch perfect."
He said that with sports arenas now complete, Olympic transport and security are the remaining challenges.
Revealing he would cycle to the Games if security allowed, he added: "I use the Tube quite a bit in London and have travelled to the Olympics using public transport.
"I will certainly look at [government workers taking public transport] because I am very impressed with what youget at St Pancras and what you get on the Central line. This government has radically cut back on the use of cars (and it is) not one that loves floating around in chauffeur-driven cars."
He said: "If my protection team let me bicycle, then I would happily bicycle."
Mr Cameron insisted that the 60 miles of Olympic road lanes for VIPs were a contractual obligation but were being kept to a minimum to reduce disruption to commuters and businesses.
He added: "Millions of people coming to the Games will put extra pressure on the transport network. You can't put your hand on your heart and say there won't be some difficulties."

"Africa's "briefcase bandits" run full-fledged criminal enterprises. Sani Abacha of Nigeria amassed $5 billion, and the Swiss Supreme Court in 2005 declared the Abacha family a "criminal enterprise". Omar al-Bashir of the Sudan has stashed away $7 billion while Hosni Mubarak is reputed to have piled a fortune of $40 billion. In comparison The net worth of 43 U.S. presidents from Washington to Obama amounts to $2.5 billion". - George Ayittey

Bunch of fools, leading a bunch of fools. Go figures. Put the idiot on okada, if he won't get on it willingly, drag his rear end by force. Don't the rest of his constituents make do with their daily runs on okadas, danfos, bicycles, or trekking, so what makes him any different, being a governor certainly does not. If he wants to live large, justify it by providing your people the basic amenities of decent living; standard school buildings, pipe borne water, available electricity, good, navigable roads, health care facilities, and yes, safe neighborhood. Also throw in good reliable infrastructures that creates enabling jobs for all those teaming young guns roaming about the streets creating problems. The same kinds of people he is trying to dock by attempting to fly over them.
Give your people work, real work, plus all these basic human needs then he can make a case for his Jet needs otherwise, he should get his rear end on an okada.
Now it's this governor, a little while ago, it was the president wanting to pull a fast one on the people. I thought the song was "they only come out at night, freaks that is" but in Nigeria, they come out in broad day light.

Ebenezer

What if he meant a model jet from ToysRUs or Wal-Mart for his office desk? They sell for $39.99.

Dear All:
Dr Rotimi Amaechi sense of priorities is warped!
The Prime Minister of Canada, Mr Stephen Harper
does not have a private jet notwithstanding that
the nation he governs has the second largest geographical
area in the world. The Prime Minister's office books
space for him and his entourage on one of the jets
used to transport military personnel by the Ministry of Defence.
When military aircraft is not available he travels on chartered
planes
None of Canada's ten premiers and the three territorial government leaders
travels on private jets. They travel either by scheduled commercial aircrafts,
by road or by railway trains.
What is so wrong with the African mind that we are unable to set the right
priorities?
Bye,

Well, let all them PDP governors who cannot provide water and health buy up all the jets there are across the world. Talk about democracy dividend for them and SADNESS for the fools who dumped their wretched bodies and souls in the ballot for the corrupt powers. What a shame.

Lord ActonAmaechi who denounced the use of "your excellence" and whose every second word is God has actually made a u-turn since his collaboration with Jonathan. A so-called rich state with only one city. Why the need for an airplane when there is no drinkable water in his one city state? "And he is the chair of Governors Forum saying they can't pay minimum wage!"Yinka.
Not even in the United State, where State yearly budgets are bigger than the entire Nigerian budget are state governors clamoring for gliders let alone airplanes. Even less than 2 months ago, the Governor of New years was scolded for hitching a ride with State police Helicopter to go see his sons game and hurry back to state duties that somehow collided with family special moments. The Governor promptly repaid the cost of the emergency ride to the state but that has already left a sour taste in the citizens, and he may pay a re-election price for that if he ventures back for re-election. This helicopter is used mostly to airlift seriously wounded accident victims to hospitals they can obtain the life saving treatments, chase and identify criminals, attend to other public duties and the Governor is not expected, at least not so soon to keep an airplane of his. And like Peter asked, where on earth are these River State fools traveling that they can't hitch the danfos and moloues they let the common person kill themselves in on our death traps called roads? And what makes the idiotic Amaechi feel that he cannot risk his safety in one of the Concord Jets that was invented, engineered, and maintained in Port Harcourt by that esteemed River State scientist brother of his, who received his training and education in one of the primary schools in River State, then went on to study engineering at the University of Port Harcourt where he invented the fastest Jet in the universe? Did I loose you yet? Hope you caught my drift. Can you imagine the fool who is opposed to a minimum wage of 18000 to workers, a mere pittance of 118 dollars, less than what my high school son earns in a week of summer job, not that I want to make a lateral comparison, but this idiotic Governor is using an airplane whose one hop from Port Harcourt to Owerri will consume the salary of about 20 people or more earning 18,000 minimum wage, and he wants to purchase or trade in another jet which like the culture he breeds, will be left unmaintained and unserviceable in the next 4 years, just like the one he is afraid to ride in at the moment. I am sure the old jet he wants to trade in has not been in service for more than 10 years. No Governor in Nigerian needs even a Helicopter for use, even the president of Nigeria does not need air plane, what do they need it for? Is it for their intelligence, their support of research and invention or for proposing policies that encourage progress in the nation the are running down everyday? I really want to know why these animals need airplane in their life. A people, a society make do with what they can produce, and I believe that Nigerian senseless leaders should make do with wheel barrows, horses, cattle Donkeys or bamboo trucks, they kind we fashioned as kids in a futile imitation of the real thing and outfitted with milk empty peak milk can for the wheels, then tethered it to a rope, string and plied them along the village death roads and then engaged them in face to face collisions, sort of crash test, to see who built the toughest vehicle. I believe that is what Governor Amaechi and the resat of Nigerian leaders who clamor for means of transportation should be given. They do not desire what they can not make in the home land.In conclusion, even the first phase of airplanes the Wright Brothers, of North Carolina, the inventors of the airplane made to introduce the world to airplanes are still available and still flyable today, maybe Amaechi should be given one of those but I don't think the entire Nigerian budget can afford one of those, they are just beyond money.Cornelius

Amaechi: Why I Need A Brand New Jet <http://burningpot.com/niger-delta/1593-amaechi-why-i-need-a-brand-new-jet>

By Isa Umar Gusa
Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi said he is seeking a new jet because he doesn't feel safe in the smaller and old plane he is using for official trips.
The governor explained that his jet procured by his predecessor, Peter Odili, was not big enough to resist changes in weather conditions, making it dangerous for him to fly in it.
He said contrary to allegations by Dr. Abiye Sekibo that the Rivers State government was planning to buy a new plane valued at $48 million (about N7.5 billion), the state was only trading an old aircraft for a new and better one. Amaechi, however, failed to disclose the value of the new jet as well as the difference the state is expected to pay in a barter deal.
"We are not just buying a new plane, we are trading in the old one for something new and I don't see anything wrong with that. If you look at the size of the plane and the current climatic conditions when you fly, you will see how dangerous it is for us to fly in that small sized plane. We are not even buying a very large plane; we are trading it for an improved version," he said.
Amaechi, who pointedly said he wasn't going to compromise his safety because of what the opposition ACN is saying, said: "I wouldn't risk my life because I'm trying to listen to an Abiye Sekibo who is accusing us of corruption. That's a wrong statement. I will not lead a corrupt government."
