Pat, Eddie;
I have found that even I, have been guilty of rushing to judgement.  As the facts emerge, this is getting more twisted than a soap opera.  As a special guest, high paying, high roller; who has used that hotel before, the hotel management must have known what he wants/likes and what he dislikes.  The maids sent up there to clean his suite may have been part of the package.  You do not just send anyone up there to his suite.  The hotel management might have known that DSK is a philanderer, and may have even helped him find some belly warmers on some nights.  Maybe no-one told our Guinean lady the gory details.  A lady of her type, from Africa; who hustled her way to a green card.. is certainly street smart, and would not let an opportunity to acquaint herself with DSK go to waste.
The type of rape committed (as it emerges), was oral and did not involve penetration.  This requires extreme cooperation and TRUST between the man and the woman.  Somehow DSK pulled this off.  If a woman really is being forced to perform such a sex act against her will... she has ample weapons: HER TEETH!!!  Duh!!  Who will DSK complain to concerning his being subjected to the unkindest cut of them all?  There is definitely more to this story, and I doubt if a rape conviction will ever stick.  The DA should not waste his time and resources.  This is dead in the water.  Most likely scenario is that Monsieur Cheapskate DSK did not pay for the maid's 'extra' services and this pissed her off.  DSK, himself must have thought this girl could have been pre-arranged for him by the management... no need to pay.  Besides men of his stature rarely carry cash.. what for?
Unfortunately, the legacy of this event is a deeper mistrust by US immigration officials of claims by Africans for asylum.  Genuine asylum seekers will now be routinely denied.  Suspicion will cloud the African community in the US.  If this lowly maid was dabbling in tens of thousands of dollars ostensibly for drugs, what the hell are the rest of us Africans doing outside the law?  This is a Pandora's Box we would rather not have opened.

Prof. and Eddie,
I don't know what to make of this story! I don't like this Frenchman or trust him, note: the rape charge I believe still stands. Surely the French won't let him take a high profile job again? As you say Prof. we will never know.
Pat.

If that was poor me, with my DNA splashed all over this woman's groin.. I would have taken a plea or risk having the book thrown at me by the judge. Prosecutors and defense attorneys are accepting and acknowledging that a sexual encounter took place; but that the accuser herself seems to be a piece of work. Now who is on trial? DSK or the poor African maid? DSK's legal team (money is no problem!!) apparently went to her native Gabon and found something about her that was at variance with the data she put down in order to apply for US political asylum and immediately she changed from a raped victim to a villai n!! Maybe, to embellish her asylum application, she could have written that Omar Bongo is after her and wants to kill her, and when DSK's lawyers sniffed around in Libreville, they must have found the exact opposite. And now, knowing the US as we all do, she might end up being deported (on top of being raped!). What insult to injury.

Guess who is will be feasting on crow?
