USA Africa Dialogue Series - Call for Panels: 8th Iberian Congress of African Studies (ICAS8/CIEA8)

Dear Colleagues,

 

We are pleased to announce that we are now accepting panel proposals for the 8th Iberian Congress of African Studies of the (ICAS8/CIEA8). Untitled "Under the Palaver Tree: Resistance and Transformations Between the Local and the Global", the conference will take place on June 14-16, 2012.

 

Organized by the African Studies Group of the Autonomous University of Madrid, ICAS 8 constitutes a new opportunity to create a meeting point for dialogue between the different trends of the increasingly rich and diverse African Studies; an opportunity as well to promote and facilitate the relations and nexus between the research centres and teams that work in the Iberian peninsula, Africa and elsewhere. In order to do that, we would like to invite researchers from Africa, Europe and other places to submit panel proposals to broaden our knowledge of the complex, multiple and diverse African realities, and in the understanding of the nature of its transformations and resistances, of the interconnections on the local, national, regional and global levels, as well as the varied accounts of the past and visions of the future that are being generated within African societies.

 

The call for panels will be open from June 1st to September 15th 2011. Panels might be submitted through our web page application: www.ciea8.org/call-for-panels/. Panels may be thematic or geographical; they will have a length of one or two sessions depending on the number of papersbeing presented. Each session will last two hours, with four to five presentations.

We are working in order to have ready as soon as possible the Portuguese and English versions of the web page www.ciea8.org. In the meantime, we attach the call for panles documents in the three working languages of the conference.
